Alex Fuentes: A Short Story
“This connection we have isn’t going away, it’s only getting stronger. Because the more I spend time with her, the closer I want to be” (Elkeles 133). Alex Fuentes, the “Latino Blood” gang member who everyone in the school is afraid of. Brittany Ellis, the head cheerleader with the perfect relationship and the perfect life. When Brittany and Alex get paired up in chemistry class, their connection becomes close. Brittany realizes that Alex’s identity isn’t really what everyone says. Will love make Brittany and Alex’s reputation collapse?

Alex just thought of Brittany as a vulnerable teenage girl who he could use to win a bet. When he actually got to meet her he realized she isn’t exactly what everyone thinks she is. He finds out that Brittany actually has real life problems and she is just as human as everyone else. When Brittany opens up to Alex, it just made him fall for her even more. Alex had never endured pure love until he met Brittany. Alex would have done whatever it took to make her happy. He wanted to know everything about her, “I want to know how to make this girl laugh. I want to know what makes her cry. I want to know what it feels like to have her look at me as if I’m her knight in shining armor” (Elkeles 176). Alex’s love was so surreal with Brittany, he would have cared for her prosperity more than his own, even if that meant he would get hurt. When Alex fall in love, his life changes and he will never be the same, “Unfortunately, I can’t run from my heart. It hurts, deep inside my body. And I know I’ll never be the same” (Elkeles

When Hollywood focuses on the correction system, particularly maximum security prisons, they create negative prison stereotypes. Much of these negative stereotypes lie in the staff of the prisons. The ideas have been expressed in a variety of ways, yet among the recurring themes and generalizations surround the corrupt prison guard. One theme is the omnipresent, tyrannical warden, who haphazardly enforces punishments on the seemingly undeserving inmates.
