Alex Montana
Problem Statement
How should Bruce Martin and Bill Langley retain Alex Montana after offering him the Global VP position considering his brilliant past record and current work life balance requirement?
Alternatives
1. Alex Montana accepts the offer - Without considering Alex’s inhibitions about his work life balance (overwhelming instead of a challenging job)
2. Alex rejects the offer – Keeping him at the current Director’s position and promoting either Alain Dupuy or Chris Park. Alex can help in training them initially.
3. Langley helps Alex- Alex asks to help in executing his tasks as the Global VP till his family problems are resolved
4. Alex rejects the offer – Keeping Alex at the current Director position and recruiting someone externally having similar KSA’s
5. Alex rejects the offer and considers to move out-- Alex considers the new role to be quite demanding and eventually resigns to pursue his professional aspirations at other accommodating firm

Evaluation criteria
1. Work life balance for Alex
2. Effect on company’s performance
3. Growth opportunities for Alex at ESH
4. Motivation for Alex to continue
Evaluation of alternatives:
1. Alex Montana accepts the offer - Without considering Alex’s inhibitions about his work life balance (overwhelming instead of a challenging job)
Alex once accepts the new position of Global VP, he would have to go for Europe trips which last for weeks and seeing Maria’s health, this would negatively affect his work life balance. Adding to that, seeing Alex’s past performances, definitely company’s performance would be escalating as expected. As CEO and Langley are expecting him to be the future CEO, his possibilities to become a CEO would be very high but at the same point he might not be motivated enough to work dedicatedly as he might feel even guiltier of not giving required attention to his family. This might affect his and consequently company’s performance.
2. Alex rejects the offer – Keeping him at the current

This position could take away a lot of the stress that the two feel as business owners, he or she could handle a lot of the necessary tasks, and then give Dalman and Lei a monthly briefing, allowing them to still be a part of the decision making process, but without all of the added stress.…

    3) Both Dalman and Lei should make the decisions. As the owners of the business they should be the ones deciding how they want their business ran. Dalman is currently playing and active role in this position as is, this should help them determine what they may want to change about how it is currently being ran. This would allow for a nice transition in to the change. Weather Dalman and Lei decide to hire from within in or find someone from the outside; it should be a joint decision that takes the growth of the business into full consideration when making the choice.…

    3. The decision should be made by both Dalman and Lei as they are the top of the food chain within the company. The main portion of this decision should be in Dolman’s hands because he is basically replacing a portion of himself. If he does not find the best candidate for the position, he may be creating more work for himself. This would be because he’d be the person that would have to run interference between the store managers and the newly hired or promoted individual. Lei should…

From both a spiritual and an ethical perspective there is no way that I would advise Benji to accept this job offer. Although this job appears lucrative from the outside looking in, upon further research Benji should realize that this company’s foundation is based upon furthering the profit for the CEO and not taking into consideration of the stakeholders. Furthermore, New Gen is a company that is dishonest and shows a total disregard to the integrity that a reputable business would display. In no way would I advise Benji to accept this job…
