to the USA, just this time in Miami, and Alex struggled to change from English to spanish, and then back to English. One day Victor set off to see if he could find work in New York, and would call them if he found any. Victor never returned. Alex never saw his father again, and this must have been a rough time in his life.
But some good news came to Alex while he was in high school; he had been offered a spot on one of Florida's best high school baseball teams, but it was a private school. Alex and his mom agreed he could go to the private school if he could keep his grades up. And the rest is history. But by the end of his senior year, Alex had a decision to make. Either go to the pro’s, or take the path of college. After much speculation, A-rod eventually went to pal Derek Jeter, who went own the same path that Alex did. Jeter did not go to college and entered the MLB draft, where the New York Yankees selected him. In the end, A-rod entered the 1993 MLB draft where the Seattle Mariners selected him No. 1 overall. After half a season in the minor leagues, A-rod was promoted to starting shortstop on Seattle. He hit third in the lineup. He was followed up by superstar Ken Griffey Jr, who hit 4th. These to would eventually be one of the most powerful duos in the MLB. After consistent numbers of seasons without much championship contention. A-rod wanted to be on a better roster, and desperately wanted to win the World Series( championship). By this time it was late 1999,and closing in on 2000. Now this is where A-rod had gotten his wish granted. He was traded to the Texas
Rangers. Pumped up for the start of a new season with a new team, Alex could not wait until he returned to the ball field. In 2000 Alex played a great season, yet the Rangers still managed to lose 91 games out of 162. Then the Rangers started the season losing 8-1 against the Toronto Blue Jays, following that the Rangers lost 14 out of 25 games. After two more seasons with the Rangers, Alex had enough. He requested a trade once more. And Alex went to the New York Yankees. A-rod was a shortstop, but that would be no use with the Yankees. They had star shortstop Derek Jeter, so Alex went to 3rd base. Still to this day, A-rod is the yankees Third baseman. In 2004, the Yankees made it to the ALCS (American League Championship Series), when they were defeated by the Boston Red Sox. All three of the following years the yankees were defeated in the playoffs. The yankees missed the playoffs in 2008, but in 2009, they beat the Phillies in the world series.
Now Alex is playing third base for the New York Yankees at the age of 39, and is enjoying every second of it. In 2013 Alex was suspended for the whole season for being on performance enhancing drugs, but has not let it hold him back.
