Alexander: A Tragic Hero

It all started with a horse that was brought to Macedonia presented to King Phillip II. This horse was considered wild and unable to be tamed. King Phillip showed no interest at all in this horse that he wanted it gone however Alexander a 13-year-old boy made a comment saying “What as excellent horse do they lose for want of address and boldness to manage him.” At first Phillip did not care of what Alexander has said but finally said to Alexander “Do you reproach those who are older than yourself, as if you were better able to manage him than they.” Later Alexander tells Phillip that if he can’t tame the horse then he will pay for the horse himself. Phillip accepts the challenge and allows alexander to give it a try. As Alexander approaches this horse he realizes something that no one else did. He noticed that the horse was afraid of its own shadow. Alexander turns the horse against the sun so that his shadow was behind. From their He was able to calm the horse and later jumped on the horse and rode away. Alexander names this horse Bucephalus
After taming Bucephalus his dad cried in joy because he knew that Alexander was destined for a bigger purpose. Since a young age Alexander was confident in what he did and wanted to achieve. Bucephalus and Alexander were inseparable. He ends up fighting together in war in fact every battle up until the day of Bucephalus death. This story influenced Alexander to become the king of Greece.
