Downtown is improving progressively where middle and lower classes people are struggling, they are vanished away by the rich people that moving in the society. And increased the society with multi-cultural peoples who mostly rich. Rich peoples start growing business and changing the society where middle and lower classes people are having hard time to surviving because everything is getting expensive.…
“O say does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?” To people like Francis Scott Key, the writer of “The Star-Spangled Banner”, the American flag is a symbol of men and women standing up for what they believed in, and even giving up their life for it. These people care greatly about the American flag being honored and respected, and I am too.…
One of the greatest ragtime musicians is Scott Joplin who was born near Linden, Texas on November 24, 1868. He was called as “king of Ragtime.” According to Ragtime and the Blues the First Age of Black American Music, He showed his interest in music in early age, and he was lucky to receive traning from local black music teachers who taught his the basics of European classical music. He became something of a celebrity in the Texarkana area, and he determined to make his living at music. In 1888, when he was twenty, he left home to seek his music fortune. (Haskins) After several years, Scott’s ragtime music became very popular, but his wanted people to respect ragtime music as much as classical music. Some fifty-three years later, the music…
Starting off with some background with Scott Joplin—Scott Joplin’s actual birthdate unknown, but is estimated to be sometime between 1867 and 1868. His family were formerly slaves and they lived in Texarkana. Joplin taught himself piano in a nearby home owned by white people. Eventually, he was taught by German music teacher, Julius Weiss, who noticed how talented Joplin was. Joplin has lived in many different parts of the United States and has lead would could be considered a successful life. His death date is known, though, as Scott Joplin died April 1, 1917, due to contracting syphilis earlier in his life.…
The tone of this song adds a significant feeling to the song. The music used is very upbeat and happy. The Keltic Cowboys use a variety of instruments that are very Irish and add to the emotions that this song expresses. They use the banjo, harmonica, and accordion among others. These instruments make this song very cherry and fast-paced. This not only helps avoid the threatening manner in which the words come off but also explains how Mackey and other immigrants and relatives of Irish-born…
The theme of Hugh Garner’s “The Sound of Hollyhocks” concerns one of Canada’s most serious social problems. The theme suggests how condescension and discrimination can have devastating effects on the people around us. The story is set in Pinehills Clinic where alcoholics and psychotics are placed to recover. Wilf Armstrong, an alcoholic at the clinic, ends up with “Rock Hudson”, who is a psychotic at the hospital, as his roommate. “Rock Hudson” was the nickname given to William Cornish Ranson by some of the other alcoholics. Rock was forced into mental illness by his mother because his wife, Sarah, was from a different social class. Rock comes from a rich family and he met Sarah at one of his father’s branch of banks. They got married secretly because Rock knew that his mother would object such a marriage since Sarah came from a poorer and less prestigious background. The first meeting between Sarah and Rock’s mother proved to be a disaster. Due to Rock’s mother’s disapproval of Sarah, Sarah and Rock’s marriage starts to fall apart. One thing leads to another, and Sarah and Rock’s marriage ends with Sarah’s abrupt death. This pushes Rock into his present state of hearing flowers talk to him. This is a great example of how social problems such as condescension and discrimination can have devastating effects on those around us. If Rock’s mother had not shown such hostility towards Sarah and Rock, they wouldn’t have grown apart and Sarah would not have died and Rock would not have gone crazy. So Rock’s mother, who originally just wanted the best for his son, becomes the person that pushes Rock into his mental illness, which ultimately lead to his death. Things like this happen every day in Canada and around the world. Awhile ago, several “skinheads” were tried for beating a Sikh man to death due to racial and religious differences.…
Kneeling during the National Anthem has become a controversial subject. Is it okay to do? Should everybody follow other people’s footsteps and do it too? When a national emblem, such as an NFL player, rejects to stand for the National Anthem, it shocks people into paying attention and spurs conversation. Most people tend to think that kneeling during the National Anthem is a peaceful form of protest that is directed toward racism but even if it's meant that way it also acts to disrespect and calls out the military and police forces.…
When the United States was founded in 1776, it was a nation of Christian individuals. According to One Nation Under God: Religion in Contemporary American Society; “In 1776, every European American, with the exception of about 2,500 Jews, identified himself or herself as a Christian. Moreover, approximately 98 percent of the colonists were Protestants, with the remaining 1.9 percent being Roman Catholics (Kosmin&Lachman).” Although America was never established as an officially Christian nation, it is plain to see that the founding fathers and inhabitants intended for America to follow a code of morality found along the lines of the Bible. Looking at America 200 years later, its people and their culture are not where they started. According…

Some people around the world are pressured into things that they do not want to do or they are expected to become something they aren’t. The act of being the “perfect” person puts pressure on people even when they don’t want to change. Sometimes going through a certain situation can show who a person really is. In the novel The Awakening written by Kate Chopin she portrays Edna as someone who is trying to break free of the title “the perfect mother-woman”. Kate Chopin uses several literary devices such as, symbolism, her characters and use of language to show how hard it is for women to live in society and the pressure with the expectations to be the perfect mother-woman.…
Singing sorrowfully about the heartbreaks we suffer in life may not have been a distinctively Irish or Scottish creation, but Irish and Scottish immigrants certainly brought a tradition of sob stories with them when they showed up in America. Subject matter included longing for love (“Black Is The Color”), losing children (“The Wife of Usher's Well”) and leaving behind a troubled home only to encounter new troubles abroad (“By The…
Black artists indeed were “robbed” black of their music, credit for their contributions made, and their just due. The main problem was shown through their recordings made by other artists who ended up profiting tremendously. All in all, African Americans contribute a huge influence on rock and roll. One of the greatest contributions that came from the African Americans had to be the blues. It doesn't matter what instrument, from basses to percussions, this music took America by storm. During the 1920s while blue recordings were being made, the “Boogie-woogie”, a piano style of blues formed.…

The world is full of mystery, and there are many places that some people believe it has been lost in time or forgotten in history. We learn about these lost places in the world, like Atlantis or Camelot from books that we read, but some people believe that they are just legends or cannot be found. On the other hand, some of these places can be rediscovered by people who traveled so far to seek these lost places and what happened to them, like Great Zimbabwe, Xanadu, and Mycenae. Furthermore, it shows the ideas of having the perseverance and the faith for people to do the impossible even if they don't succeed. In Edgar Allan Poe's poem, "Eldorado," he tells about a knight's journey throughout his lifetime: the knight is searching for the lost…
