    1. A) The problem with the election in 1800 was that it wasn’t much of an “election” at all. Newspapers, at the time, were mostly partisan, and weren’t concerned with telling the truth all the time. Also, because of their lack in technology, campaigning was almost impossible for presidential candidates, so not much was done to campaign their running of office. Bottom line, there were NO primaries, NO nominating conventions, NO candidate speeches, and NO entourage of reporters. The 1896 election’s main problems came from our precious medals. The Republican’s major issue was to support for the gold standard and high tariffs. It linked money to the scarce amount of gold so debtors never got a break from inflation. The Democrats, on the other hand, had the issue of unlimited coinage of sliver. The issue with the 2000 election was that they overruled the Florida Supreme Court and held that more precise and consistent standards for evaluating ballots would have to be applied to all counties. What came with that, was they also ruled that there wasn’t enough time to recount all the ballots before the electors were to vote, so they never really knew who really won the election, just what the U.S. Supreme Court ruled.…

The issue is an affirmative action case that make its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The court was being asked to decide whether categorizing citizens by race in order to determine the kind of treatment those individuals would receive was constitutional or not. This is not something new to be tried within the United States Supreme Court system. Attorneys for each side of the Adarand v. Pena case presented to the court, but ultimately the court would make no decision on it, in the end.…

If you’re wondering how Lyndon B. Johnson had so many people on his side, there’s one simple way to put it. Retail Politics! This is when a particular person would go out personally to local events and meet individual voters one-to-one to learn their situations and political views and use that to their strategy. When it came to winning, LBJ had the patience and the humility to work with one person at a time. Craig Raupe states, “JFK would call five or six, LBJ would take nineteen names and call them all.” So, while John called his five or six friends of unwavering opinions, knowing no matter what they would always be on his side. Lyndon would gather all his steady voters with his hesitant voters for a better chance at gaining more by increasing the chance of having those extra voters that might just say “yes.”…

The world can be perceived in a number of ways and no one man or woman has the same perception of the world. This difference can be expressed through the writing of two Native Americans, N.S Momaday and D. Brown. Both of the writers use diction, imagery, and tone. However, they used them completely differently and conveyed different descriptions from two completely similar landscapes.…

ABC Analysis for Towels More Towels and More is a small family company that is looking to expand their company. Out of the three types of stores they sell too (major retailers, specialty retailers, and gift shops), gift shops has the highest contribution margin so the CEO believes in order to have a successful expansion, they need to pursue gift shops. The marketing manager on the other hand would like to utilize the Activity Based Costing (ABC) approach to analyze the high customer distribution and costs to determine which types of companies they should pursue for expansion. In order to determine if the CEO is right in his contribution margin based assumption as well as and in an effort to allocate customer support and distribution costs, I have been hired as an consultant to prepare segment income statements that allocate based on revenues and the other on activities. TM has a rather high overhead mainly around the selling and distribution cost. After considering the overhead costs,…

The adoption of the AASB 8 has encompassed the transformation from a perspective approach to a management approach to segment reporting. Commentators have contended that the approach places favouritism on preparer’s rather than the users, in contrast to its predecessor AASB 114. The favouritism is sourced from the discretion that managers are provided with under the AASB 8.…
