Alice's Monologue
Alice wrote furiously across her sheet, steam practically blew off where her pencil made contact with her paper. She had so much to say, yet so little time and space.

As Alice set down her pencil, showing an air of being done, she looked around the classroom. Other students looked confused, as if the advanced algebraic equations were hard. Why were they so confused? She peered at the posters, all of which were covered with tacky math jokes, like, Pass your test, or be a ! She tried looked at her classmates again, hoping to pass the formulas they needed to know to them telepathically. But they still looked confused. This came so easily to her, unlike them. Julietta blinked, and scrunched up her face as if someone had slapped her. Behind her, her posse stood there looking shocked. Clearly, in their tiny little minds, no one could disrespect the “queen” of the school like that.

Julietta, however, unlike her posse, recovered quickly, and had her smug grin back on her face within seconds. “Oh, really? What could you make that was special enough to win?”

The smirks on her posse’s faces returned, and Alice hesitated. She hadn’t really decided on what to do yet for her entry in Tech Fair. “Um, well, you see, I’m making…” Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Mrs. Winston’s car keys poke out of her coat pocket. “A car”! She blurted.

Her eyes widened. What had she just said?

But her big, stupid mouth wasn’t done yet. “It’s a car, that runs on, uh”....Before she could stop herself,the faithful word tumbled out. “Toothpaste”!

Julietta laughed, and flipped her honey blond hair again. “A toothpaste-powered car? I’d like to see you try.” She sneered.

Alice’s insides seemed to flare up. At that particular moment, there wasn’t a single rational thought in her brain. All she could think was that she couldn’t let Julietta get the better of
