Usually when people are sad, they don’t do anything. They just cry over their condition. But when they get angry, they bring about a change.
Beginnings are scary. Endings are usually sad, but it’s the middle that counts the most.
Dying seems less sad than having lived too little.
However long the night, the dawn will break.
Better by far you should forget and smile than that you should remember and be sad.
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Behind my smile is everything you’ll never understand.
For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, It might have been.
There’s nothing more depressing than having it all and still feeling sad.
Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.
I had rather have a fool make me merry, than experience make me sad.
The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.
Nobody really cares if you’re miserable, so you might as well be happy.
We enjoy warmth because we have been cold. We appreciate light because we have been in darkness. By the same token, we can experience joy because we have known sadness.
Sadness flies away on the wings of time.
- Jean de La Fontaine
I didn’t want to admit it. It was easier to lie. Hide the hurt and emptiness to smile instead of cry.
A sad spectacle. If they be inhabited, what a scope for misery and folly. If they be not inhabited, what a waste of space.
It is sad to grow old but nice to ripen.
I don’t know if I’m getting better or just used to the pain.
The walls we build around us to keep out the sadness also keep out the joy.
We ask God to forgive us for our evil thoughts and evil temper, but rarely, if ever ask Him to forgive us for our sadness.
You can choose to be happy or sad and whichever you choose that is what you get. No one is really responsible to make someone else happy, no matter what most people have been taught and accept as true.

Imagine this. You wake up one morning in the year 1929, in your luxurious, pricey mansion. You then make your way downstairs to eat that nice big breakfast. Then you kiss your family good bye and head off to your fancy job. You come home that evening and suddenly you’re flat broke. Meaning all your money and life’s savings vanished. Unreal right? Well it was real for hundreds of families on October 29, 1929. The day the stock market crashed and when America’s confidence was challenged greatly.…

Sharon Begley in “Happiness: Enough Already” argues that being extremely happy may be a goal of anybody but it also can be “the end of the drive for ever-greater heights of happiness” (455). Begley claims that “being happier is not always better” (455) and an excessive happiness may affect badly to people’s life. She points out that people who reach the highest level of happiness don’t feel motivated to move forward since they are already satisfied. The author goes on insists that happiness does not last long because “negative emotion evolved for a reason” (456). She presents many cases of famous people who experienced negative emotions to create their well-known works showing the need of sadness in every lifetime. Furthermore, people desire to gain more and more happiness causing them the fear to experience sadness. Therefore, what they once considered normal sadness is regarded as a psychiatric illness now. The author then concludes that everything would be much better if “the single-minded pursuit of happiness as an end in itself” (458).…

Firstly, Harper Lee shows us that we should feel optimistic even in tragedy. As Miss Maudie says “Grieving, child? Why, I hated that old cow barn. Thought of settin’ fire to it a hundred times myself, except they’d lock me up.” (Lee, 75). Her house is nearly all she has and it is on fire. Instead of feeling grieve; she is happy about it because she has a chance to build a small new house. Most of the time, we would feel very depressed when we lose something that is precious to us. But, feeling depressed will not going to take us anywhere. What we should do is to be optimistic because we already lose something very precious; we do not want to lose our smile also. Try to look for something new, something that would make us happy once again.…

I found a video my mom had filmed of me crossing the wooden bridge. After watching it, I realized that those bridges were kind of like life. Both of the bridges got you to your end destination, but it was up to you to choose which one to take. One bridge is sturdy, safe, and predictable and the other is rickety, risky, and unpredictable. I could have picked the safe bridge, but then I probably won’t have a story to tell or have a video to watch. In life you make the choice on which path you take just like the bridges. If you pick the safe, predictable path you’ll miss out on a lot of things. You’ll never put yourself out there. You’ll never ask that girl or guy you like out because you don’t want your heart broken or never try to publish the novel you wrote because of fear of rejection. I realized that night that life is too short to always take the safe path. When I’m at the end of life I don’t want to think back on the life I lived and have a million what ifs. Sometimes you have to face your fears and cross that rickety wooden…

Tears. A common ground for all people. Everyone cries, but whether they want to admit it or not is a personal choice. For some, crying expresses weakness, a characteristic that brings upon them the ridicule of their peers; for others, tears are a natural way to express their emotions without holding them in. However, crying is used by many to relieve stress and helps them to calm down after an intense emotional experience. People shed tears because of natural causes, psychological stimuli, and sociological assimilation; knowing each of these triggers can help you to better understand the behavior of those around you.…

The interchange of emotions and feelings within one’s self is a particularly hard thing to measure. A person cannot sit and say that they are 5 happy or 11 angry. It is a more variable and subjective thing to concisely express. Humans are also changed depending on what such feelings may amount to. One may be very happy, and will be moved to do an act of charity, whereas one who is feeling a large summation of anger will be moved to injure or put down another. The levity that emotions and feelings have on human action is such a horrifically understood concept that most people really have no understanding of such a thing. Of all such emotions, pain is a combatant of positive and negative change. To look at happiness, you see acts of kindness and good, whereas anger more often then not causes nothing but trouble. However, pain does two things; pain is one of the most prevalent causes of human change, and is a provoker of human deterioration.…

The people who have been through the most pain truly know what joy is. A lot of people go through struggles and pain at more than one point of their life. We are the causes of our own suffering. I have always believed in this saying. It really embodies the reasons behind why one would be happy or unhappy. Although our moods are swayed by our thoughts, they are also affected by the people around us. This is a feeling that requires a desire for it, or a want to be optimistic. If happiness is achieved, there is not only a positive effect on the human mind, but also on the health of the person. I believe that all moods are contagious. And furthermore, they are contagious through energy- positive or negative.…
