All I really need to know I Learned in Kindergarten
I can remember my mother telling me for a few weeks before the first day how wonderful school was going to be and how I would meet loads of new friends. She also told me that the other kids are going to be scared just like I was. Turning five years old, and knowing that it was time for me to begin school already, was really very scary. The thought of waking up early and going to school and not being with my mom all morning made me feel sick to my stomach, but I just had to suck it up and go. The first day of kindergarten I was sad but also excited at the same time because I was going to meet new friends and I was going to get to play with them during recess. I remember walking into school with my new back pack; they were the ones that had to two little wheels on it so you wouldn't have to carry it.
As I was getting dropped off and hearing my mom telling me bye I started to cry. Being really close to my mom I didn't want her to leave me there all alone. So we walked in together and she told me that I was going to be all right. My mom and my new teacher, Mrs. Fossum were having a hard time getting me to stay there. After they saw that I wouldn't stay, my mom had to stay there with me thru out that whole day. As the first day went on I was making a bunch of friends with my new classmates. When the second day came I wanted my mom to stay at school but I realized that she had to go to work. After she had left I saw a table that had some crayons and some paper on it, so I ventured over to it and stood by the seat watching to see if anyone was going to stop me from drawing. No one came so I took a seat, a piece of paper, and of course a blue coloring pencil just like the one I had at home and started to draw. When the other children saw that I was already hard at work with my drawing, which somewhat looked like a cow, they came and sat down with me. Even the child that didn’t want to leave his father noticed me and

When I got to the age I could start school, I was excited. I started school like any other kids my age did. Kindergarten through first grade were fun for me. Second grade came and that is when things started happening that I did not like, and third grade I absolutely hated. I was being bullied and was ignored by teachers. I was viewed differently just because that school thought I should have been in special ed. They got their way for a little while, by having my parents sign some papers that would provide some extra help, but the contract never said I would be in special ed. My parents were absolutely furious when they found out I was in special ed when they did not give permission to the school to put me in there. So came the time to move. I started attending Udall Schools in fourth grade. I was welcomed by a class that was eager to know me and teachers willing to help. My teachers helped me learn the concepts I missed from the previous school.…

Mrs. Snyder passed tests out and flipped mine over when she placed it on my desk. I flip over and read the paper. It says “PARENT CONFERENCE MONDAY NIGHT AT 7:00 PM.” I looked at the grade and my heart dropped, it was a F. I hear the bell ring and I was so mad at myself I just put my test away and stomped out of the room. That night, I heard my parent’s car pull in after school. “I have to show them, I have to.” As they walk through the door, I hand my test to them and explained what happened. I felt my heart drop and felt total regret for what I did. “I’m taking your electronics away!” my mom yelled, “Go to your room. Think about your imprudent decisions!” The whole house was quiet that night. It was Monday morning, school is back already. In 1st period, Mrs. Snyder announces that there will be a new unit test next monday and there will be a study guide passed around today. Mrs Snyder comes next to my desk. “Here is a chance to redeem yourself. Don’t forget about the meeting tonight.” That night, my parents drove to the meeting. That was the worst 45 minutes of my life. They came out furious and had faces of disappointment. To my luck, there was no lecture…

I was in class and she started to ask questions about the Holy Trinity. I was the only one to get a question correct, but unfortunately she didn’t have her prize box. She told me me with as sad voice that she was sorry that she didn’t bring it, but that she would bring it next class. I told her that I didn’t matter and that there was no hurry. I said goodbye to find my mom in the family center. The next day, I went on the bus to go to school. Once off the bus, someone called my name. It was my teacher! “I told you that I would bring it,” she said. “Thank you,” I said and picked my prize. I waved goodbye to her and walked inside the building to…

It’s a bler, trying to look back on when I was a preschooler, so first grade was a mess. First grade is a life changer. Going to Tri-Point in Piper City not even for a full year. Tri-Point is a small old school just like ROWVA. I remember changing schools because my parents got a divorce. We moved to Peoria and lived there with my mom's parents. I got transferred to a Catholic school. Every Wednesday the whole place went to church right across the street. It was the worst thing ever sitting in the old creepy church listening the Father talk about only “God” knows what. My teacher's name was Mrs. Heartstick, no I did not make the name up. She grossed me out. He hands very dry and cracked, they looked like an old man's hands who had worked his whole…

There I was, just the age of six. My mom walked me to my first day of first grade. This was no kindergarten, that’s for sure. I was living in Seattle, Washington at the time. Our school started late that year because the teachers went on strike to get more money. Besides the late start, the only other event in first grade was we moved leaving all friends and family behind. To the lovely state of Idaho which is really boring compared to Seattle, Washington.…

The majority of people believe life is complicated, but realistically, they just need a more simplistic mindset. In Robert Fulghum’s All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, Fulghum takes our “complicated” lives and breaks them down to terms as basic as Kindergarten. As the title suggests, he explains that one of the simplest years of our lives teaches us the most important concepts. His instructions include cleaning up after your own mess, living a balanced life, and sticking together. Kindergarten may be a straightforward year, but it is also one of the most influential years on our futures.…

At the age of 10, I was placed into an afterschool tutoring program. I was struggling with my reading and math so my parents placed me in there to improve on my weakest subjects in school. The class was being set up so students who applied for the program had to wait outside of class in the hallway of Waipahu Elementary School. I assumed that all the students waiting out in the hallway were signed up into the tutoring program. I looked around to see if I had any friends that I could stay with but I knew no one there. Though a few other students caught my attention when I was looking for my friends. There were a few boys surrounding a girl. This girl looked new to the school. She was dressed like a tom boy but her hair was long and in a braid. I assumed she told these boys a joke because…

It was a week into my senior year in Ganesha High School. Walking into my third period AVID class, right after our 10 minute nutrition break, everybody, rowdy and noisy, talked about what they had done that weekend or what they had seen at break. As usual I walked towards my seat and as usual it was a task. My school bag was hanging on my side and I had my breakfast box that was filled with a milk carton, an apple, and a packaged bread in my hand; I walked and tried not to trip over the carelessly left bags on the isle. People stood up even after the bell had rung and the noise level was still high. I finally got to my seat; first row, first seat, right next to the teacher’s desk in which he had his computer. I put my bag down on the floor and put my breakfast box on top of my desk. The teacher, Mr. Mariles, came in and everybody took their seat, the noise level lowered distinctively. I turned over to face my friend who was sitting behind me. I whispered to her “Do you know what we’re doing in class today?” she whispered back “I think we are working on our personal statement.” I turned to face the front of the class, with a disgusted expression on my face. The teacher then started to explain what we were going to do that day. He had a smile in his face and was making hand movements all over the…
