People have dreams from a very young age. At first children believe they can be anything, but that isn’t the case. As you grow older, you realize getting your dreams isn’t as easy as you may think. When people figure this out, some give up on their dreams and some forget them. But some people decide to fight for their dreams. William, a young adult on the journey of becoming a rock journalist overcomes his struggle of keeping his dreams in the back of his mind when friendships, family and love get in the way.

A journalist career consists of socializing with people, but becoming friends with the people you’re working with may be bad. (The problem is sometimes you have to remember to put your career first and not become friends with people.) In fact, the first lesson William was taught when entering the journalism career was to not befriend rock stars. But without connections and friendships he cannot get good interviews with bands. (When William goes on tour with the band Stillwater, Russell, the main band member puts off the interview with Stillwater and William gets distracted from his task) William goes on tour with Stillwater in order to objectively interview them, but the group befriends him, which makes it hard for him to write about them professionally. During the tour, he learns that the group is having problems and might break up which makes him feel too loyal to them as a friend to publish their story. Becoming friends with the group made it nearly impossible for him to write objectively.

Family support is very important in order for a young person to follow their dreams. When families object it’s an obstacle. William’s mother, Elaine’s plan was for him to become a lawyer. From a young age, Elaine planned for him to become a lawyer, which made it hard for William to confront her and disappoint her.
