32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the story but when he got to the office, Simon was standing there holding the office workers hostage. Rufus screamed “Why are you here? What do you want?!” Simon chuckled and said “…You” Rufus said “Fine, just please don’t hurt anybody!” “Alright you’re coming with me!” Simon yelled. He brought him in his stolen car and took him to an alley, where they met the rest of the Gassers. Simon said,”If you hit back I shoot you, got it?” Rufus said, “Ok, but what’s going on?” suddenly Simon grabbed his arms and held them behind his back. The Gassers punched and kicked, harder and harder, beating him so bad he collapsed to the floor. Baby and the Moors happened to be walking past and saw this big commotion but couldn’t tell who was being beat. Rufus struggled but he got enough strength and whispered, “Help me!” Baby and the gang instantly broke out in a fight with the Gassers. Simon’s gun went off 3 times. One hit Baby’s arm and the other two hit Shankman. Rufus Ran as fast as he could to the police station and told them what had happened. Five cop cars and two ambulances left the station at a rush. Baby and Shankman were rushed to the hospital while both gangs were brought to the station for questioning. The Gassers were questioned and sent to jail for 25 years. Rufus went home but no one was there so he got cleaned up and changed. When suddenly he heard a knock at the door. So Rufus answered it and saw a big man standing there. He said, “Son…?” Rufus said, “Ernie is that you? You’re my dad?” “Yes and I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you at the training.” “It’s ok I’m just so overwhelmed right now.” “Don’t be” Ernie said. “I left once but I’m not leaving again.” Etta, Curtis and Janet walked in and they all hugged. The next day Rufus went back to school. On his way there all of the gangs came up to him and thanked him, thanked him for getting the Gassers in jail. All of the gangs joined the Moors and didn’t do such bad things anymore. Rufus didn’t have to worry about anything or Simon anymore.

You really don’t know who we are?” Jason shrugged helplessly. “It’s worse than that. I don’t know who I am.” The bus dropped them in front of a big red stucco complex like a museum, just sitting in the middle of nowhere. Maybe that’s what it was: the National Museum of Nowhere, Jason thought. A cold wind blew across the desert. Jason hadn’t paid much attention to what he was wearing, but it wasn’t nearly warm enough: jeans and sneakers, a purple T-shirt, and a thin black windbreaker. “So, a crash course for the amnesiac,” Leo said, in a helpful tone that made Jason think this was not going to be helpful. “We go to the ‘Wilderness School’”—Leo made air quotes with his fingers. “Which means we’re ‘bad kids.’ Your family, or the court, or whoever, decided you were too much trouble, so they shipped you off to this lovely prison—sorry, ‘boarding school’—in Armpit, Nevada, where you learn valuable nature skills like running ten miles a day through the cacti and weaving daisies into hats! And for a special treat we go on ‘educational’ field trips with Coach Hedge, who keeps order with a baseball bat. Is it all coming back to you now?” “No.” Jason glanced apprehensively at the other kids: maybe twenty guys, half that many girls. None of them looked like hardened criminals, but he wondered what they’d all done to get sentenced to a school for delinquents, and he wondered why he belonged with them. Leo rolled his eyes. “You’re really gonna play this out,…

Though being told he'd sleep on the sofa had send a note of disappointment through him, it, and Kurt's mention of the church the next morning, also helped eased some of his worries about Kurt.…

Lexi took the shiny change, jiggled it in her hands and put it back into her wallet. “ Do you wanna come with us back in the locker room with us, Lexi?”, Chase asked. “No thanks.”, Lexi replied most likely because of the group of teenage boys that seemed “too cool for school” who strolled in way too late. Chase ignored them and jumped down step to step, somewhat in a hurry. I followed her down into the locker room running my fingers across the braille once more. The locker room was in some way a mysterious place full of wonders eight year olds never knew existed. We played childish games throughout the locker room. Whenever someone came in we pretended we were washing our hands, holding back laughter. As the clock hit “2:13 PM” on March 25th of 2011, my best friend of twelve years, Lizeth, and I had arrived at our bus stop at the corner of Bartow and Winter Heaven Boulevard after a long day of school. Tuesday’s walk home was not the same as Monday’s. As soon as we got off of the bus we realized the absence of silence, and what appeared to be a group of teenage boys, were involved in a confrontation across the street. It was rowdy like a group of kids at the playground. Lizeth immediately crossed the road when she realized that her cousin Gilbert stood among the group of boys. She left me next to the culvert that blocked the ditch at about six feet from the road. Suddenly, everything went black. The odor of burnt rubber filled the air. My body dashed into the culvert and underneath the wheel.…
