Interview Questions:
Why do you enjoy this activity?
Alvin enjoys this activity because it is a good way for him to stay in shape, while learning how to defend himself. He feels that it is a rewarding activity since the amount of time and effort put into a movement is noticeable. For example, after practicing how to slip punches for an hour it becomes easier to dodge an opponent’s punch when sparring.
What about this activity …show more content…
A boxer needs to build not only power and speed, but also able to take the punches. Having to learn techniques while being forced to keep a positive mindset is what Alvin enjoys the most about this sport. Another thing that Alvin enjoys is the one versus one nature of the sport. When losing it is not because of a faulty teammate, but rather because the person in front was bigger and stronger that day.
How do you feel after participating in this activity (detail get them to explain)?
After a good training Alvin feels exhausted but satisfied, but happy with the training that was accomplished. On an off day Alvin is more likely to be annoyed with himself about whatever went wrong during the training and formulate a plan so it does not happen again. A tournament setting is a whole other playing field. There is the stress that builds out before the fight, but after the first punch it seems to all go away. After the fight there is usually a little or a lot pain depending on how much better the opponent was then him. It is not uncommon to come back full of cuts and bruises.
How do you feel if you are unable to participate in this activity for an extended period of …show more content…
If Alvin is by himself, he selects a technique that he needs to improve on and starts off practicing it at a slow speed. Once the technique is properly achieved at a slow pace, power then the speed is added onto it. This helps build the muscle memory need to do this technique if it is required in a fight. In a class setting the instructor’s word must be followed. At the end of the class there is usually a sparing component so that the student’s can practice fighting against an opponent. During sparing matches, the students are required to hit each other at a weaker strength than in a tournament setting. This is so that the students are able to learn how to properly use new techniques with a reduced threat of injury. Alvin has fought in some boxing tournaments throughout the Greater Toronto Area held by small clubs a couple times throughout the last three
