After committing the crime she picked up the phone dialed 9-1-1 and calmly-too calmly- ask the operator to send the cops. What they found upon arrival was a woman sitting silently on the living room couch, while her five children laid dead on the bed.…

Her body was trembling as continued to scream at the judge who merely smirked at us while fondling a disgustingly thick roll of money under his podium. Her screams echoed through the halls as we were dragged away by four disgruntled officers. “Stop screaming you stupid little girl” I roar causing her to go silent in fear while tears continued to stream down her pathetic little face. As we passed the jury their disgusted glares…

My first read over this hand out was a little hard, I had to re-read it multiple times to understand the different concepts, and to comprehend it. I feel like I have not lived long enough to feel the effects or even realize how I impact the world on a larger scale. I have heard people say that being in your 20’s is all about being selfish. You are pushed into trying to decide what to do with the rest of your life and pray that it makes you happy. So as a 21 year old who solely supports myself, I am just that, focused on work and school. As this reading states a lot of people are very focused in on themselves. Only when we are not so concerned about us and our lives can we see how we effect the world, or how the world affects us.…

The first case involves two friends, Nathan Ybanez and Erik Jensen. Teller County Sheriff calls the scene gruesome. Some would say that it was one of the most heinous crimes in Colorado in 1992, it was a double homicide. They described the crime scene as looking like a scuffle may have taken place, and quite a bit of blood lost. 15 year old Jacob Ind and his classmate brutally killed his mother and stepfather. Erik grew up in a secure , and affluent household; Nathan on the other hand grew up in an abusive one. The two classmates had only known each other for only a year and a half, and Nathan had killed his mother, another classmate that helped cover up the murders suggested that Erik took part in the killings as well. Erik's defense attorney states that being with somebody else who committed a murder and serving, probably, more fundamentally as an accessory, yet Erik was prosecuted also as an adult, but given life without parole in prison.…

She was my only sister. She was 44 years old. She suffered from bouts of depression. She was an extremely talented professional musician and teacher. She was well loved by her family, friends, students, and peers. Hundreds came to her wake and a memorial concert held in her honor. Two composers wrote pieces just for the occasion. All this is a testament to a life supposedly well lived, so what happened?Kathleen was a member of a religious organization in Rochester, NY called “Heartsight” run by a preacher named Pastor Paul Garlington. It is a private members-only organization. Garlington is called a “prophet” by its members. Kathleen was involved in his “circle” for nearly two decades. For too long, I did not think that Heartsight was a “cult” and often defended her to family members questioning her involvement in it, but since her death have heard too much information from people who used to be in the Garlington circle to dismiss such things anymore. Beatlemania discusses the sexual appeal that young woman had towards the Beatles during the 1960’s. At the time, women were expected to repress their sexual feelings. In order to become a ‘perfect house wife’, women were required to walk a fine line by appearing presentable, proper, and sexually preserved in order to attract the attention of men or potential husbands. Women who did not follow this way of life were to be publicly scorned. There was a great deal of pressure accompanied by a fear of being rejected that many young women felt during this time, so when the Beatles entered America these women were able to vent their repressed feelings. Thus, this enormous amount of Beatle admiration in the 1960’s was merely the start of a sexual liberation for women. It is clear that their almost obsessive and somewhat senseless love for the Beatles was for personal liberation because the majority of them knew they would never actually marry or have any sort of involvement with the members. I agree that these young women able to somewhat personally reject their futures by using the Beatles to escape their predictable life paths. However, at the same time I am not sure I see this happening in contemporary pop culture. Young girls today do not nearly have the same amount of pressures placed on them to find a husband, and yet there is still a large amount of fan craze surrounding boy pop bands such as One Direction, and Justin Bieber. Thus, I believe there are still many questions as to why the Beatles became so insanely popular at the time, and I think there may be something more than just young woman attempting to break from their gender…
