The movie I have chosen is the notebook. This is a fairly popular movie that incorporates the disease, and most of it is shown through
flashbacks. The clip I will use, will focus on the purpose for the flashbacks, which is a man trying to help his wife with Alzheimer’s to remember him and their past. However, it is heartbreaking when she does not remember him or their children. This is a tragic effect of the disease which is why the movie is so emotional and gets people to realize the seriousness of the disease.
Alzheimer's disease is a truly important issue that need to be examined. This disease takes away a person's mind and who they are as a person. Most victims cannot remember who they are or who they love. This disease does not just affect the victim, but it also greatly affects those around them. Some of these loved one end up having to care for the victims and it is an extremely demanding responsibility. People want the victims to be who they were, but they act completely different and sometimes even cruel. You cannot reason with them any longer and it is a difficult job, emotionally and psychically. I understand these difficulties because, I live my grandma who has Alzheimer's disease. My mom and I are her caretakers and it is very difficult and takes a toll the both of us. This is one reason I chose this topic, another is because I feel that this issue is somewhat overlooked. It is not considered a major problem or talked about frequently. Yet there is no cure for this disease that takes away a person's whole essence and mind, leaving loved ones to deal with the effects. This issue needs to be addressed because the disease is becoming more common and there is no cure.
