Amair Khan
My favorite Indian icon is the actor Aamir Khan. I have always been a fan of his ever since I saw his first movie, ‘Qayamat se Qayamat Tak’. From being a chocolate hero Aamir went on to do more meaningful roles. What I like most about him is that he is a thinking actor.
His passion for movies is very evident. It is said that he involves himself in the film to the point that he ghost- directs it. His recent movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’ was initially directed by someone else but later Aamir took over. It turned out for the best, for the movie is one of the most touching and relevant films that I have ever seen. Even the BJP leader Advani admitted to have been moved to tears on seeing it.
One movie of Aamir that made a big impact on me was ‘Ghulam’. It tells the story of how a happy-go-lucky vagabond is compelled to give up his irresponsible ways and fight against a bad guy who terrorizes the community. It was a commercial movie alright but the message was powerful and very relevant to our society. It revealed the power of unity against tyranny and the need to recognize that the failure to react against evil is also evil in itself.
This was why Hitler could get away with his excesses. Aamir is not only a versatile actor, but he is also a producer of 3 hit films and a director with a vision. He is a descendant of the Muslim scholar and politician, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and a descendant of former President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain. He is related to former Chairperson of Rajya Sabha, Dr Najma Heptullah.
Many of Aamir’s films, after he established himself in his career, have been movies with a message rather than mindless entertainment. They include movies like ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Earth’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Fanaa’, ‘Rang de Basanti’, etc. Though ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was about love and friendship it was a very realistic film with believable characters. These films reveal his desire to be associated with good movies and intelligent filmmakers.
Aamir’s current policy is to act in just

Rahim Khan played an important role in this story. From early stages, the relationship between Baba and Amir is in evident distress. This is mainly caused by Baba’s disapproval of Amir’s weak character and inability to uphold his very own morals. On the other hand, Rahim Khan is more like a father figure to Amir. He gives Amir advice on life, direction on development, encouragement on career. Rahim Khan tells him not to give up his dreams and to do what he wants to do. He spent time reading Amir’s first story and wrote him a letter. In it he says ,“God has granted you a special talent. It is now your duty to hone that talent” (Hosseini 35). Rahim tells Amir that he will always be behind him and support him. ”My door is and always will be open…

A movie made by India’s finest director Mani Ratnam featuring the most talented actor Kamal Hassan and having its music composed by the one of the best music directors Illayaraja was very much high on expectations. The product was nothing short of sheer brilliance. Nayagan had got it all right!! It is almost fifteen years since the movie hit the big screen, but even today it is the most talked off movie in film circles. It was supposed to be filmed on the lines of another great English movie, Godfather starring Marlon Brando. A remake from any language is a difficult job, but Mani Ratnam had got the basic elements right to take the movie to the Indian masses. This movie is nothing short of a legend.…

I would consider DDLJ one of my favourite movies as it is a timeless classic that has shaped Bollywood and Indian cinema. I first watched this movie as a child and it is one of the movies that had really stuck with me and almost everyone I know throughout the years. Growing up Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were household names because of how they were able to act their roles. It is a very emotional movie that kept me interested throughout the entire duration, which is a very hard task to do when I’m watching a movie for the 5th time. The character of Raj played by Shah Rukh Khan goes through a transition phase that for the first time in Bollywood which made it stand out for me as a NRI. We see the role of the typical good Indian boy switched into a macho alpha male which has previously always been played with a NRI perspective. Overall I believe this movie should always been shown in a class like this because it captures the elegances of Bollywood cinema and allows you to see how it has progressed over the years.…
