Amazing Grace
Jonathan Kozol’s book, Amazing Grace, is based on the lives of the people living in the poorest congressional district of the United States, the South Bronx. In the book, Kozol describes the experiences he had while visiting Mott Haven, a poor neighborhood in the South Bronx that is two thirds Hispanic, and one third black. In his report, Kozol portrays a world where babies are born frequently to drug abusive mothers infected with AIDS, where children are murdered on the streets, where there are scarce job opportunities or opportunities in general, and where the majority of men are either on crack or in prison.
