The Amazon database of books is almost infinite and with the ability for system to acknowledge what the reader’s interests are, Amazon is able to advertise and sell more books to their customers based on their true interests. The most amazing part of Amazon’s bookstore is that there is not one physical store in operation. All of Amazon’s buying and selling of books is handled electronically through the Internet.
2. Amazon is using disruptive technology to run its business because Amazon was introduced as a new way of doing things that did not meet the traditional needs of people who typically purchased books. Amazon has created a new market with the convince of purchasing pretty much any book you would ever want to read right from the comfort of your own home. In creating this new convenience, Amazon is destroying the traditional bookstore market because people would rather buy books in “One-Click”, an exclusive Amazon purchasing process, than drive to the store only to find that they do not carry the exact book you are looking for.
3. Amazon is using intranets to help the internal members of the company to communicate with each other in a more effective way. Amazon’s use of intranets makes it easier for the their employees to perform their daily duties by providing exclusive access to webpages pertaining to company information. Amazon is using extranets in a very intelligent way. Their use of extranets is to provide third-party sellers with the ability to sell products on the Amazon website through zShops and The Amazon Marketplace.
