Amazon Rainforest Monologue
He discovered the object on a crisp fall day in the local town park near an enormous oak tree. The tree had just began to shed its last coating of vibrant orange leaves, partially concealing the object. The boy, however, was able to identify it after taking his daily afternoon commute home from school. He held the object up to his eyes to examine it. It felt smooth in his hands and cast a fluorescent yellow glow. The object was a highlighter. He turned the highlighter around to look for any symbols or labels, but all he found was a chipped eye printed in black in on the top of the cap. The boy decided to keep the highlighter despite the warning signals flashing inside his head to just drop it and continue walking. He figured he would …show more content…
He then whipped out the highlighter, popped off the cap, tossed it on the desk. The article was about the Amazon Rainforest. It began to narrate about the various types of vegetation that inhabits the Amazon. The boy came across a paragraph that described Venus Fly Traps and figured that would be a notable point to highlight. He brought the tip of the highlighter closer to the words “Venus Fly Trap” and slid the highlighter across the page. Suddenly, an unusual noise pierced the boy's eardrums. He thought it sounded like a piece of paper tearing in two. Then, much to the boy's astonishment, he saw the words “Venus Fly Trap” slowly rising up out of the article! The words began to fade into a whirling cloud of iridescent colors. The boy back up and feared that his whole room would explode. The cloud then began to fade and the boy began to rub his eyes ferociously to make sure he wasn’t …show more content…
One day he used it to generate money so he could purchase all the food he wanted at lunch, not sharing a single morsel of food with his friends. Another day he used it to generate an answer sheet for a pop quiz he took in math class. Each day the boy possessed the highlighter, he could feel the power flowing through his veins, the arrogance seizing control of his mind. One night, the boy, intoxicated with selfishness, wondered what would happen if he wrote his own name down on a piece of paper and highlighted it. He tested his hypothesis by taking out a crumpled piece of paper and scribbling down his name, anxious to find out what would happen. When the boy finished highlighting his name, he began to feel a tingly feeling pulse his hand, which began spreading through his body. He witnessed the familiar thick cloud of iridescent smoke envelop him. The boy struggled, trying to escape the whirling force, but it was too strong. He was then absorbed into the piece of paper with his highlighted name on
