Out of the 37 plays and 154 sonnets that Shakespeare wrote, “Much Ado About Nothing” has become one his most popular pieces. The comedy follows Don Pedro, Claudio, and Benedick after they return home from war. Upon meeting Hero, Claudio immediately falls in love with her, and with the help of Don Pedro, Hero agrees to marry him. As they prepare for the wedding, Don Pedro plans to get Beatrice and Benedick together while Don John plots to ruin Hero and Claudio’s relationship. Both succeed, as Beatrice and Benedick admit their love for each other, and Claudio shames Hero at their wedding, believing that she had cheated on him. By the next day, they discover that Don John had staged the scene, and Claudio and Hero still got married, and Benedick got engaged to Beatrice. Throughout the play, Shakespeare uses character foils to emphasize the traits of his characters, and add to his story. In the play, “Much Ado About Nothing” by William Shakespeare, Benedick and Claudio are foils of each other because of their personality traits, choices, and reaction.…

In her essay, “Censorship: A Personal View” Judy Blume gives readers insight on the impact of censorship based on her personal experiences as a young reader and then later in life as a censored writer. She provides numerous examples of educators who were affected by censorship and chose to take a stand against it (345). Although the piece lacks evidentiary support for these accounts, and draws on sarcasm for emphasis, the original objective remains clear and strong. Blume succeeds in exposing what censorship is capable of, what this means for readers and writers, and how activist groups like the National Coalition Against Censorship [NCAC] can help.…

Wesley Scroggins states in the article “Scroggins: Filthy books demeaning to Republic education”, “In high school English classes, children are required to read and view material that should be classified as soft pornography”(Springfield News- Leader). He then states that Speak should not be allowed in English classes because it is inappropriate for teenagers to be reading by viewing soft pornography. Laurie Halse Anderson states within her essay “A Comment About Censorship”, “Reading and discussing books is one of the most effective ways to get teens to think through and learn about the challenges of adolescence.” This shows that Anderson disagrees with Scroggins and has completely different views and opinions on how the book is perceived. In order to show society why she views her novel in her perspective, she wrote “A Comment About Censorship”.…

Writers in the “censorship is a must” perspective believes that censorship is important for the general public. Specifically, these writers believe that whoever is in the know must not tell the whole truth to others. People would surely go crazy and should not be allowed to read just any piece of literature. Also, in that respect, not just any piece of literature should be published and writers themselves should be censored, according to this perspective.…
The United States of America is built on two fundamental factors: freedom and capitalism. We as Americans pride ourselves in possessing “liberty and justice for all,” as declared in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our government gives us the right to speak our minds, practice our faith, and express ourselves without reservations. The economic system of capitalism stems from this laissez-faire political ideology. It allows for private systems within the country to operate without government interference. With these two factors working together, American culture is able to blossom and American citizens are able to thrive. Placing censorship on any source available to the nation, such as movies with violent scenes, is a violation of both freedom and…

Pornography remains one of the most controversial and confusing areas that the First Amendment contains. Supreme Court justices have struggled through years trying to define what it really is by society standards, but it still remains indefinable. People argue whether pornography should be protected by the First Amendment or not, due to its inflicting content and views that feminists have towards it. Among many people are Susan Jacoby, a journalist that is known for her feminist writings, and Susan Brownmiller, an author and a graduate of Cornell University. They both discuss what we should be allowed to say and do, and what we should do regarding pornographic material.…
At what point has censorship gone too far? By simply allowing someone else to get censored, you give anyone the power to censor you or something you like. Censorship is the act of blocking “offensive” material. It is wrong due to the fact that it a prevention of creativity, unnecessary nuisance, and contradiction of rights.. Censorship in music is just not right. It goes against everything in society.…
What does censorship mean in the book Fahrenheit 451 and what role does it play in the society? Censorship is the suppression of speech and public communication on a society because the government thinks it is bad for their people. Ray Bradbury illustrates that the government of this time uses censorship to control their people to believe that books should be burned and that they are harmful, it is also shown that the people of the society are suppressed to the point that they are blind to the outside world and stuck watching the Televisions. The people of the society are so restrained in areas of education and are ignorant to what’s happening around them; this causes them to make mistakes such as killing someone with a car or burning someone alive like the firemen. The themes most seen in the book are censorship, education, and Ignorance; they are shown the most by the three characters of Beatty, Montag, and Faber.…
