Overview of designers and how they became who they are
Amber Sceats was basically born into the family business, growing up amidst watchmakers, jewellers and sunglass moguls. Amber and her mother founded in the Amber Sceats brand in 2012. Janette (Amber’s mother) and Amber have collaborated to create an eclectic collection. Amber quotes ‘I always knew I wanted to get involved.’ She claims she has always been creative since a young age. Although she did a degree in psychology, she then decided after she had finished, that it wasn't for her. So then decided to embark on her dream to become a designer. She collected all her drawings that she wished to create kept in a scrapbook. Amber always had an an interest in ethnic jewellery from different countries around the world and fashion and style from the 16th century. She exclaims its still like when she was a child she's lays out materials and plays around with them till she gets a killer design. Amber’s mother and grandfather are also a big inspiration to her, her grandfather developed one of the most noted watch companies. Once she produces a sketch that she likes, she will get a wax mould created. This will allowed to see a more ‘real’ idea of the aesthetics of her ring. Now that she has her design she cull down her materials to the one that are most suitable to her piece, she’ll mess around and experiment with a few along the way. For this ring she used silver plated green. Silver is a beautiful, soft, white, lustrous metal thats strong, malleable and ductile. It is because of this materials softness that it must be alloyed with base metals like copper, as in the case of sterling silver (92.5% silver, 7.5% copper). If she's producing a collection, Sceats usually get her ideas from different places around the world or a specific adventure she's had. She states that her favourite part of the design process is picking which stone or marble shed like to use for her collection in this case the Amber Gem. Once she's decided on her material she gets it moulded. Ambers silver jewellery is often plated wit a thin coat of 0.999 fine silver to give the item a shiny finish.
