Seeking for someone else to do it could have taken months or years in that era. Beowulf had the ambition and mindset to defeat evil and save lives. Plus Hrothgar had seeked help from great people and the news spread from sea to sea and no one except Beowulf he had the hands to stop this. If Beowulf did not step up, no one else would have, so why should he have found someone else to do it who would have not gotten the job done? Beowulf had a heart to use his strength for good and he had the Lord’s help.
“Otherwise, he must endure woes and live with grief for as long as his hall stands the horizon, on its high ground.” (282-285) Suffering for twelve years should have not happened in the first place and Beowulf took a stand because he had the urge to stop the disaster. God had given him the talent and mastery to defeat monsters and he wanted to live his life to the fullest. He chose on his own to step up and to use his mightiness for good, why would he waste it. News had already spread and people tried different ideas but none of them worked, and numerous citizens had perished already. Beowulf had God on his side and when he put his mind to accomplish and spoke the words with his own mouth that he would put all his strength to do this. Rewards awaited him even though he did not need them, and the option to back down and find someone else would not have represented Beowulf’s true character. Choosing to step up and help his friends, Beowulf made a warrior’s decision and in the end he stopped Grendel’s evil
