Characteristics of Powerful Women What do the following household names have in common? Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, and Malala Yousafzai. These women could all be described as strong, powerful, brave, revolutionary, and a plethora of other positive adjectives. So what exactly makes them strong? Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to do a solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Rosa Parks refused to give in to the racist culture of the 1900’s by standing up to the law of sitting in the back of the bus. Malala Yousafzai is the youngest person to ever be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her defiance to the Taliban and advocacy for female education. Powerful women do not run away. Unfortunately, many women have a history of trauma. Powerful women do not let their past overtake them. They do not have to be healed, but they are always trying. A strong woman will do what they can to help other people without endangering their own safety. They use their experiences to teach others or raise awareness. Instead of finding joy in beating others down, they find joy in bringing them up. She knows that her value is not dependent on anyone else and only dependent on herself. Strong women do not feed into the stereotype that women hate each other. Instead, when they see their friends and peers struggling, they do their best to help. They fill in the gaps of other people instead of making them worse.
Self-Care
Powerful women keep their minds, bodies, and emotions strong through self-care. Self-care is sometimes thought of as a joke phrase, but it is not. Self-care is engaging in anything that will keep you healthy. Strong women know that they need to stay hydrated, eat well, and exercise. They also know that self-care does not stop with the physical body. Emotional and mental health need to be taken care of as well, and powerful women know that. They can control their emotions and know how to cope with mental health problems.
It is important to note that having a mental illness does not make someone weak. Mental illness is highly stigmatized in society as something negative and a sign that someone is fragile. In fact, people who struggle with mental illness are very tough. Strong women who struggle with mental illness are well equipped to handle their emotional health due to the battles that they fight every
