America’s Colleges A unique quality of America is that the U.S. has the best colleges in the world. What makes the U.S. have such exceptional colleges? Why do the other colleges in the world not measure up to the American colleges? The next few paragraphs will expand on what causes the American colleges to be so extraordinary. There are little over 10,000 colleges in the world with over 4,800 just in America. This causes the U.S. to have a very high amount of colleges to be rank high in the world ratings. America has 16 colleges with a global score over 80 and 40 higher then 70 which makes it the most of any country (savethestudent.org). Harvard has a score of 100 and is the number one school in the world. Also, American colleges have
the highest enrollment out of all colleges, with the University of Phoenix-online having enrolled 212,044 people in 2015. With there being so many colleges in the U.S., there are many fields to study like engineering, business, science, and agriculture, which are just some of the 600 fields that can be studied. As well as with there being so many fields of study each college has its own field that they are known for and for which students attend it. American colleges are the only colleges that separate major and minor degrees in to separate classes so the student only has to take classes the pertain to that degree. There is also the fact that American colleges are the only colleges in the world that offer every kind of sport on the campus so athletes from all over the world come to America to go to college so they can play the sport they like. With there being so many students and so many fields of studies, colleges hand a great number of degrees each year with over 2 million from over 4,000 accredited colleges ( The Atlantic). These causes are affected by certain variables.
With so many students coming in that have to pay tuition the schools are able to hire the top professors and buy the best teaching equipment. This causes foreign students to want to attend the U.S. colleges for there out standing professors and teaching equipment. There is an unprecedented number of students coming from China because of the rise of an affluent class. In 2012 there where 764,400 foreign students in American colleges that number as risen to almost 950,000 since then. There are 194,000 Chines students in American colleges, which is an increases of 23 precent since last year. India has the second most students in American colleges with 100,000 enrolled followed by South Korea with 72,000 enrolled (opendoorsreport). Although there are so many foreign students in American colleges they only make up 5 precent of students leaving room for U.S. students. The effect of this is that American colleges are some of the hardest to get into, which in turn is a big draw for students. American colleges are recognized all across the world and many international companies long to hire people that have degrees from a college in America. Companies in the United Kingdom that are more likely to hire employees that have received their degrees from a college in America. This is important because for almost every high-paying job in America requires the applicant to have a college degree. This causes more people to enroll and
more money coming in to the American colleges. Which is why American colleges are considered the best colleges and offer all the opportunities that are available to students.
