American Dream: Reality or a Dream?

Do you think the American dream still provides to the poor, tired, and huddle masses? I think America still provides access to everybody who steps foot on this country. Today many people immigrate to the United States in search of the American dream. The American dream have made millions of people from other countries to come to America to have a new and better life of freedom, equality, and opportunities to be able to achieve ones goals in life that unfortunately people cannot have back in their countries. Making the American dream a dream is the reason why America is a country of so many racial and national backgrounds. I think people that are willing to leave everything to come here to have a better life for themselves and their family are the strongest of all, because when they come here they have to start from zero.

Barack Obama is one of the people that knows the American dream because he has lived it, and he want everyone in this country to have the same opportunities, no matter where you come from, who you are, how you look like, what ethnicity you are, or who you love. President Obama has and is an inspiration to many people. A young African-American that grew up not having much, but came here to America with open opportunities and access to make his dream possible. People may describe the American dream as being rich and famous or have lot s of power, but to me from what I have seen throughout my personal experience coming here to this country is to have freedom, being able to study and have a high education for the future to have a well-paid job and be able to live happy in a healthy environment. President Obama worked really hard to get where he is now. One big challenge he overcame was that he was black unlike the previews presidents of the United State they were white. Becoming a president was a really big challenge, first he had to go to college to become a lawyer, and then he had to run for a seat in the senate and eventually made it to presidency. At the end all his hard work paid off, everything he wished to achieve he got because he believed on himself that he was capable of doing it.

Working towards the American dream persist on hard work there’s lots of people in the world that exploit themselves to work hard just to get paid a minimum to be able to support their family and give them what they need ; those are the people that really need the opportunity to come here to the country and have better working opportunities and education for their children. There’s lots of people that come from other countries that have to start on doing the hardest jobs that people don’t really want to do , which reminds me of the story ‘’Who Burns For The Perfection Of Paper’’ about a guy when he was young he worked in a printing plant manufacturing legal pads . He would cut himself with the sharp paper until both of his palms burned. Ten years later, in law school when he saw a legal pad he knew the pain people had to go through working there to be able to support their family. That story made me realize and appreciate everything I have and have had in the past because there’s still people out there who abuse themselves working too hard to make what everyone needs .

The American dream has many obstacles, sometimes people just give up because they are struggling to achieve their goals. Sometimes some dreams can’t become true because of how many obstacles there are. To be able to overcome those obstacles that keep you from reaching your goals you have to push yourself to your limits. If you are willing to accept the challenges and you’re willing to do whatever it takes not matter how big the effort you have to give, you will be able to achieve the dream despite the struggles. In the reading of ‘’ They Live The Dream ‘’ Curtis G. Aikens had a big challenge that he didn’t want to admit. He did not know how to read. Until at age 26 he finally decided to ask for help to overcome that obstacle. Putting his new skills in good use he became a food columnist and began to focus in his version of the American dream. He explains ‘’ it was so, when I talk about the fact that I couldn’t read, other non-reading adults will say, ‘’ if he can do it, I can do it too!. ’’ The American dream is both a hope and a promise, if you are struggling at something that is not letting you move forward to achieve your goals you have to make a big effort on overcoming those struggles so you can make it further and closer to reach your dream.

In conclusion the American dream is that this country is the land of opportunity, like President Obama Said in one of his speeches , there’s not a liberal America and a conservative America – there’s the United States of America. There’s not a Black America and White America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America. To me that means open opportunities for all, that anyone can achieve success through hard work and has given hope to people born without the opportunities to make their dreams possible here than their own home land that’s why it’s one of the main reasons people still come to the united states from around the world , because the American dream still exists not only for high and middle class but for poor as well. Success starts with education, not everyone can be successful but everyone is offered the same opportunities to succeed no matter what your income status is all you have to do its set up goals, work hard and don’t give up ones you start, because each step you take is one step closer to make your dream reality.
