American Football and Positive Attitude
Nicholas Cantalupo Football Essay

Am I Committed? I have a passion for the sport by giving my all every play and by showing up to every practice. I drive for excellence and to help our team every way possible. I have a positive attitude cause without one I wont make a better football player. I also don’t have any excuses because I show up to every practice and play no matter what.
Am I Disciplined? I am a self starter because before practice I play catch with my quarterback to get better at catching the ball. I set goals for myself to make myself better. For example my goals this year were to play varsity and by the looks of it I am going to play. I have a positive attitude by encouraging everyone to do better and to make myself a better person. I am relentless because I give my all from the snap of the ball to the whistle on every play. I am detail oriented because I follow instructions and get it right on the first try.
Am I Coachable? I listen to whatever coach is talking to me and I am looking at them when they are talking. I absorb what I am taught and use what I am taught against the other team. I react to all plays by doing the steps taught to me. I lead my teammates by telling them what they do wrong and by encouraging them. I am motivated to do my best and hit kids like I’m twice the size I really am.
Am I Balanced? I study my plays and routes to make me the best receiver I can be. We have a tiny bit of diversity but not much and its good so we aren’t considered racist. I am inner calm because I just need to have confidence that I know what im doing. I have humor because if you take it way to serious it isn’t fun after a while. I have patience so I can let the plays develop.
Am I Mentally Tough? I have confidence while I play even in practice because I hate to mess up. I focus while running my patterns and blocking. I keep my composure cause as soon as you let the other team get to your head your done. I always

You earn recognition, all your playing time, and a starting position through hard work. I grew up playing all kinds of different sports. I played baseball, football and later in life I started to swim competitively. In each case, I had to learn to take the responsibility to do my part—for myself and for my teammates. Practice was mandatory and took priority over other interests of mine. This was hard for me, since I missed out on school dances, family activities and other fun events because I had to be at practice everyday. It also forced me to learn good time management skills as I started to balance school, a social life, daily two-hour practices and games on the weekends. The coaches can only teach so much and, while they tried, couldn’t force me to learn my plays or study in my off time. I knew my hard work was paying off when my coach would say, “Good job Gunnar, I’m proud of you!” That one sentence made me realize that my hard work had paid off and that I should continue to work even harder, not only in sports but also in everything I…

I have quite a few trophies on my shelves. I went from being a lineman, to being a starting wide receiver. I have caught three touchdown passes. The first touchdown catch I ever had was probably the best meaning to me. I jumped when I got into the end zone because it was my first one and I was really happy. It was a deep streak into the end zone although, we did win the game. I caught a lot of passes against Lee high. I probably would have caught another touchdown but I got held against Honaker. During the Honaker game I got my knee hit on some guy’s face mask and my knee was bothering me. When we played eastside I had a lot of big hits I accomplished them. Altogether, I have accomplished some pretty great things in my lifetime of playing football, baseball, and…

My family did not let me renounce my dream, and they helped me prepare for the next year’s tryouts by driving me to club tryouts, countless lessons, and intramurals. Daily, my brothers and I would practice in our backyard just tossing the ball around. Every day, I would improve, serve the ball further, and my confidence would grow. My dad encouraged me to attempt to play for club teams, and even if I didn’t earn a spot on the team, at least I would gain practice and experience. I tried out for four club teams, and I didn’t earn a spot on any of them, but I believed my skills were improving. By chance, I found one club was having their tryouts much later than all the others, and when I showed up, I was the only one there. They asked me to play for them, and I agreed, but they resulted to be private lessons. Every Monday, I would practice for a couple of hours with a student coach. Occasionally, I would play scrimmages for other teams. Most importantly, I enjoyed those weekly practices. In the final weeks, leading up to the school tryouts, I attended a variety of intramurals and camps. I enjoyed playing with other girls, and I enjoyed the sport. Even though I was usually the weakest player, I enjoyed playing the sport more than winning. When the time came, I was confident in my abilities and prepared to earn a spot on the…

American football as we know it originated from rugby played in Britain in the mid-19th century. The person who Americans consider the “Father of American Football” is Walter Camp. Professional football can be traced back to 1982, when there was a $500 contract for the Allegheny Athletic Association and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club to play a game against each other. Originally football was primarily a sport of the Midwestern industrial towns in the United State. In 1902, the American Professional Football Association was formed and two years later the National Football League. The competition was fierce between the two leagues, which led the two leagues to merge. Football eventually became national. When the two leagues merged is when…

Although I don’t play three sports and do all the clubs my high school has to offer, one thing that I don’t have that sets me apart from other candidates is dedication. I would consider myself very dedicated. As a student, I am a very hard worker and put effort into all my assignments. I feel like it is an important characteristic to have when entering you next step in life. In my case that next step in life is college. As for dedication, I do my best whenever it comes to attendance and I hate to ever miss a day. I’ve heard stories where some students only come to class for three days, which is crazy. I get disappointed whenever I ever fail on anything, whether it be a school assignment or a small favor that my sister asked for.…
