American Gangster
INTRODUCTION

American Gangster tells a story about how the emerge of drug traffic and trade was in the streets of Harlem, New York. Denzel Washington plays real life gangster- Frank Lucas back in the 70s that was originally from North Carolina.
Lucas moves to Harlem and is apprenticed under a notorious crime boss- Bumpy. Russell Crowe plays detective Richie Roberts – a New York detective that has a task to bring the drug trafficking and corruption between the police department to heel. In the movie also plays Josh Brolin the sleazy cop, along with a host of celebrity actors and actresses.
What I found interesting of this movie was that Lucas was likable even as a terrible person who did awful things in the streets of Harlem and through our own military and oversees.
The movie is built in a way where you never know exactly what's coming next, and you never know who you should be worried about. Richie Roberts plays a bad father who chooses to put women and his job before his family. Lucas plays a drug dealer with enemies all over the place with good character.

AMERICAN GANGSTER
The movie talks about how nobody used to notice Frank Lucas in his earlier years that were he was known as the quiet driver to one of the inner city's leading black crime bosses. But when his boss suddenly dies for unknown reasons, Lucas exploits the opening in the power structure to build his own empire and create his own version of the American Dream.
The movie speaks about howLucas also relied on a tightly controlled crew called "The Country Boys." He preferred using relatives and men from his hometown in North Carolina because they were less likely to steal from him. Through ingenuity and a strict business ethic, he comes to rule the inner-city drug trade, flooding the streets with a purer product at a better price, much cheaper than others. Lucas outplays all of the leading crime syndicates and becomes not only one of the city's mainline corrupters, but part of its

With so much hubbub given to the lenses and the format used to shot this film, one may expect to find many shots of huge mountains and outdoor sets. But these unique features are instead almost exclusively used for up close, tight situations, almost entirely in the stuffy cabin. Each unique character is simultaneously slowly unfolded. The script offers everyone opportunities to stand out, and they all do, but the greatest performances are given by both, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Walton Goggins. The Samuel L Jackson character is great, but many times Tarantino references the actors iconic image, by slowing down funny lines and making him say self-referential lines that don't seem to fit in. It often feels like Tarantino is poking you in the ribs saying “huh? did you see what he just said, wasn't it…

As the story continues on into the actual recollection, they morals of the characters become clear, it demonstrates how they just want to cause trouble in any way that they can just to fill the part as “bad”. It seems that they have almost developed how they act based on movies, they listened to rock and roll, smoked, did drugs, drank, and hung out with girls at the place where all “the cool kids were”, Greasy Lake. but it quickly becomes clear that they are just not a fit for the role.…

I chose the movie Goodfellas to watch for my project. For this movie we had to do the camera work and how it affected the movie. The movie shows in how the soldiers of the mafia or gangs lived. It is centralized around the middle men showing no true boss or Don of the gang. The main character is Henry Hill. It starts out with him as a kid being brought into the “family” and then the rest of the movie is his exploits or his life choices.…

First of all, Scarface is one of the greatest feature films ever because it illustrates the American dream perfectly, which is to be successful. This story goes in to detail on what some people are willing to do in chase of the American dream. Tony Montana or Scarface was a man who knew what he wanted, but did not have the patience to get it honorably. This description fits many of today's Americans. The fact that so many people can relate to this obsession with obtaining the American dream, is the reason this movie is considered a classic. Though the way he achieved this dream was not honorable and honest, Montana, through illegal means, became very successful at what he did. This movie, perhaps better than Wallstreet (1987), New Jack City (1991), or any other movie that has tried to depict the American dream, also captured America through its unbelievable realism. In America, being successful is probably the ultimate goal of everyone. No one wants to grow up and be unsuccessful. To many it's easily obtainable and to others it's just a dream. In Scarface, the film shows Montana getting onto the boat that brought him to America, in Mariel, Cuba. When he steps off the boat on the coast of Florida, he is a bum who many would look at in disgust. At the end of this epic tale, as he steps out of his office right…

    Gangster of Love

For the solo novel I read The Gangster of Love by Jessica Hagedorn. I chose the book because I read Dogeaters for the group novel and I really liked Hagedorn’s style of storytelling also, it sounded interesting from the group presentation. The Gangster of love is a coming of age story told in the perspective of Rocky Rivera (for the most part). Other parts of the story are told from an omniscient point of view so she can give the thoughts and feelings of other characters. I notice that Hagedorn likes to use different points of views within one novel. She has an almost schizophrenic way of telling stories through including the thoughts of all her characters through a combination of omniscient and first person point of views. The main characters of the book are Rocky the youthful, innocent and hopeful narrator; Voltaire, Rocky’s hippie older brother who in my best words can be described as crazy or insane; Rocky’s mother Milagros who even in her poor status still believed she was upper class and behaved as such; and finally Rocky’s companions Elvis and Keiko. The book takes place during the 1970’s and 1980’s in places such as Manila, San Francisco and New York.…
