Senator Marco Rubio was elected into Senate on Nov. 2, 2010 and is a member of the
Republican Party. Sen. Rubio was born in Miami, and his parents are immigrants from Cuba.
He is married and has 4 children. From 2007 until 2009 he served as Speaker of the Florida
House of Representatives. He attended a couple community colleges, before graduating from the
University of Florida. After that he moved on to the University of Miami School of Law where
he earned his Law Degree. Rubio follows the Catholic religion, and was confirmed and married
in a Catholic Church.
Senator Bill Nelson was elected into Senate in November 2000; prior to that he served 6
years as a member of the Florida Cabinet. Like Rubio, Nelson was born in Miami. He attended
public schools in Melbourne, Fl, and graduated from Melbourne High school. After high school,
Nelson attended University of Florida, transferred to Yale University, and in the end received a
law degree from University of Virginia. Nelson served for the U.S Army Reserves for 2 years,
gaining the title of Captain, he stayed in the Army for an additional year. Nelson was admitted
to the Florida Bar in 1968, and practiced law until 1970. Nelson was raised Baptist, and now
attends Presbyterian Church. He is married and has two grown children. In 1986, Nelson traveled
into space, becoming the second sitting member of Congress to do so. He was aboard the Space
Shuttle Columbia as a payload specialist. His mission (to deploy the Ku-1 Communications
Satellite) was successful. Nelson has a heavy political background, dating back to 1972, when he
was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. He was re-elected in ’74 and ’76. In 1978
he was elected into the U.S House of Representatives, serving until 1991. In 1994 Nelson was
elected Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner of Fl, and re-elected in ’98.

One of the concerns is the great lakes and working towards protecting them from invasive species as well as keeping them cleaned up. Currently, the invasive species in the great lakes are zebra mussels, sea lamprey, and types of plants. There is not a way to get these invasive species out of the great lakes; however, we can work towards preventing more from getting in.
