American Revolution Essay
The American Revolution was and still is a staple in american history, as it is taught in schools across the nation.That being said, what brought the men and women of those times to the point of revolution is a vital turning point in history. This revolution was initiated by the undesirable laws that Britain forced onto the colonies which brought an uprising of frustration.
The French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years war) was the reason for Britain’s debt, therefore bringing the british parliament and King George III to create new taxes. The battle commenced when England declared war on France in the early 1750s. This paper has referenced the british parliament more than once, however many aren’t aware of what parliament is. Parliament isn’t the british government, but rather a group of politicians who meet to make decisions for Britain. At the time, the prime minister was George Grenville. With Britain burdened with heavy debts from the Seven Years war, it was up to Prime Minister Grenville to find a solution to propose to King George III. As mentioned above, the english parliament passed act after act in order to rebuild their finances.While their intention of escaping debt appeared logical, the parliament unreasonably wouldn’t allow the colonies to send a representative to the meetings. These taxes not only affected Britain, but the colonies that were thousands of miles away. By taking the colonists’ voice away, conflict and ideals of independence were introduced.
Britain, in order to pull the country out of debt, set ridiculous acts and taxes, slowly bringing the majority of the colonies to mutually despise them. Because the colonists didn’t have a say in the decision, they were irked at the idea of being attached to the englishmen. Colonists began the revolution due to the acts and lack of representation, in hoping to become their own independent nation.
