King Manuel I had paid for Vespucci’s third voyage. He had not taken command, but later on he was requested to be the commander from the Portuguese officer. After words he sailed through the coast of south America from Cape Sao Roque to get to Patagonia on this expedition. He also discovered Guanabara Bay (Rio de Janeiro) and Rio de la Plata. Rio de la Plata was later called Rio Jordan. His expedition led him back to Sierra Leone and the Azores. Then Vespucci, through a letter to Florence, called New World. He sailed again for Portugal to Brazil, but he didn't really discover anything. His whole group broke up and the commander’s ship disappeared.
