Amethyst is made when pure quartz (white quartz) elements (silicon and oxygen) combine with some iron atoms. The quartz then turns into amethyst.
Colour: Purple and Bluish-violet; amethyst is probably the most brilliantly colored type of quartz.
Hardness: 7 on the Mohs harness scale since Amethyst is a type of quartz (and quartz is #7 on the scale).
Luster: Vitreous (glasslike) Amethyst is like stain glass windows; it has colour and is see-through.
Shape: Triagonal; the shape of Amethyst; since Amethyst is made out of crystals (big or microscopic).
Cleavage: Not very perceptible because Amethyst breaks unevenly, in other words it fractures.
Texture: smooth, but with edges.
Uses: Since amethyst is a type of quartz it has similar uses such as special lenses, prisms and quartz-glass tubes for lamps quartz is also used for surfaces such as counter tops and swimming pools. This is because it's one of the hardest and most durable minerals.
Environmental effects of amethyst: The effects are that the effect of mining amethyst is it makes the world smell more. If there is still amethyst mining going on, monitor lizards will extinct from the world. Amethyst's impact on society: Amethyst makes beautiful jewellery and since it is a birthstone (February’s) it is very important it is also said to have some suppositions here are some:
1. Amethyst is known as a spiritual stone and is often used for general healing purposes and as an aid to meditation.
2. Derived from the Greek word amethustos, meaning not drunken, the stone being supposed to prevent intoxication (a Amethyst glass makes water look like wine so you can think you are drinking wine but you are actually drinking water.)
3. If one sleeps with a piece of amethyst beneath one's pillow intuitive dreams may occur and inspired thoughts might enter one's creative mind.
4. Rub it across your forehead to offer relief from a headache.
