“Illuminae” by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff is an action-packed page turner that makes you hope the book never ends.The book is set in a futuristic dystopian society where a group called Beitech is trying to exterminate three shuttles with 8,340 refugees that escaped planet Kerenza; Alexander-78V the battlecarrier, Hypatia the scientific exploration shuttle, and Copernicus the freighter, to eliminate any witnesses to what they were doing. The chase was evenly matched until AIDAN, (Alexander’s Artificial Intelligence Defense Analytics Network) with his advanced programming that allowed him a humanlike awareness, decided solely that for the benefit of the entire fleet, the Copernicus needed to be shot down due to it being infected with a disease
called Phobos. The rest of the book entails Kady Grant dodging around those who are infected and trying to save the rest of the fleet with AIDAN’s help. Though this book can be hard to grasp at first, it is well worth reading till the end.
