My father is my hero. He is my role model and my reason for pushing on because that is exactly what he did. He was able to move on with his life with the help of prosthetics. After the loss of a limb life is challenging, but with the help of prosthetics it becomes easier. Prosthetics have evolved over time to do just that. No amputation is wanted but, just like my fathers, they are preformed if and when nesasarry. For those of you who don’t know what an amputation is, its the removal of a limb due to trauma, prolonged constriction, or excessive pain in that limb. Amputation is used a preventative measure from the spread of disease such as ganggrene or malignancy; also it is used to control pain and sustain life in a trauma setting. In some countries it is used as a war tactic or a a punishment. The thing with amputations is that the limb does not grow back. The only solution is, in some cases transplant but, more commonly a prosthetic. With every prosthetic comes its set of challenges but prosthetics were invented to ease those challenges.(amputations) Even the ancient Egyptian wanted to find a way to carry on with life. The reason is say this is because the earliest known prosthetic dates back to the Egyptians in about 2750-2625 B.C. Through out the years prosthetics have evolved to be much more than carved wood and bindings. In 1942 the science of prosthetics was taken to a whole new level when the suction socket was invented at Berkley. This invention open many doors in the field. In 1975 inventor Ysidro Martinez began to push the boundry of traditonal artificial limbs. He invented the first artificial limb with fucntioning ankle and knee joints. This invention changed the future for amputees and artificial limbs everywhere.(h.o.p)
With each different amputation and each different life story comes a different prosthetic. The most important part of a prosthetic is the socket which wasn’t
