George Brown’s collection titled ‘An American Soldier in World War I,’ states his experiences during the First World War. While Browne was in Europe during in the war, he wrote various letters to Martha, his fiancée, explaining the life of soldier in the war. During his time in the military, Browne undergoes a vigorous training in the US prior to leaving for France in 1917. Since there was no sophisticated technology for communicating during the war, letters were the sole means through which Browne and Martha communicated with each other. The letters of the author serve as evident for his survival during the war in which thousands and millions of soldiers across the world left their breath. Browne gives an account of the reasons that forced him to serve the war and writes to Martha about the expansion of US army and deportation to European theater as there was an increase of threat from the German army.
