not only her life, but also the lives of her loved ones. During Through watching the battle between addiction and sobriety, I learned that sheer willpower is an astronomical force, giving people the strength to drive and persist, no matter how difficult the journey may become. I believe this pertains to education and planning for your future. Just because you believe a subject or field is too hard to understand, it shouldn’t stop you from trying. If you are unyielding and attempt success, it is achievable. Though, sometimes before achievement, comes failure. My mother showed great clout on her journey to an addiction free life, certain circumstances forced her to give up everything and serve in prison for one year because of mistakes made during this epic battle of will.
Failure may seem like the end, but from the bottom, you can only look up, and learn from your mistakes. I saw this in my mother when I visited her weekly in prison, seeing how hardship can bring great improvement and gain. By the time she was released, my mother had unburdened herself the hardship of addiction, learned about her spirituality, and regained her confidence in herself. The same thing could pertain to me, as any collapse I have faced or could face, may also be an opportunity to reflect upon my mistake and prevent it from happening in the future. During this time, I too had to stand steadfast through the turmoil. So I could continue a steady life, I moved in with my father, but it was anything but that. There may have been no drug or addiction problems, but instead a completely different magnitude of dilemmas. As my father lived an hour round trip from my school district, and worked morning and late night shifts, I was required to wake up at the twilight of morning, feed myself, and leave for school. Yet another debacle faced me on the academics front of education, as I constantly fell asleep in class and had little to no assistance in completing schoolwork, and thus my
grades dropped. Such large and onerous obstacles can be hard on a young child, but I somehow managed to pull through using pure willpower. It was difficult to adjust to such a new life, but I adapted and was able to rise each morning ready to excel in class and receive excellent grades. As I reflect on this time, I see it as a major turning point in my life where hard work and determination led to success. Through endurance and sheer willpower, anything can be achieved. Failure may seem like a hindrance, but it may be an opportunity to rise above and learn from your mistakes. Whatever path you may take in life, aspire to follow your dreams, try to change our world for the better, and do not go softly into that good night.
