In Chapter 6 of Enrique’s Journey, from the last footsteps on Mexican soil to the first on US soil the process of smuggling immigrants become more detailed. Although they discuss the different form in which smugglers bring migrants to the United States such as through ropes or human chains, El Tirindaro seems to be more experienced. As a smuggler El Tirindaro is very risky be very wise in every move he makes. Although it might seem like he makes poor decisions when it comes to his personal life and health, he is success is getting many immigrants across their border and to their destination. However, El Tirindaro’s poor judgment is seen when he leaves Enrique in the hands of people in his “smuggling network” who have been drinking. The overall process is very sketchy and frightening to the immigrants but it all seems to be worth every last cent their families spend even if it means raising it to more than what was negotiated, like Enrique’s mother had to do. Despite the process, reuniting with their relative is most important.…
The setting of my book is in Honduras, a nation in Central America. This is not the only setting, as Enrique leaves for America, where his mother is located. Because of this, Enrique has to travel through Guatemala, and Mexico several times, as he has been deported frequently. Loudres, his mother, is in America, and left in 1989. Enrique leaves for America in the year 2000.…
Enrique’s Journey, is a national bestseller that has won more than a dozen awards thus far. I believe the author, Nazario, felt the need to tell this story because it was both a compelling story and it was also a way to bring light to the atrocities that immigrants face during their journey across and to unknown lands.…
Enrique is motivated to stay in the United States of America because he is reunited with his mother, has better opportunities, and can aid his girlfriend financially. On the other hand, he wants to return to Honduras considering that he has his girlfriend and daughter back home.…
I am reading Enrique's Journey. The major obstacle Enrique is facing is his mother left him to go work in america. This leads to his other main obstacles. Lack of love and abandonment/rejection. Those around him don't care enouf for him and seam to just not want him around. So they reject and/or abandon him. He doesn't feel loved and that causes all of his self inflicted problems in…
In the book Enrique's Journey a young man named Enrique travels to the united states to find his mother but he’s not the only one there are many other kids like Enrique who go to the united states to find their mothers. As crazy as it might sound children and women making the trip to the united states does not surprise me.The reason it doesn't surprise me is because they make the trip out of love. I agree with the topic because the people who take the trip do for their family the people who take the trip do it because they have to not because they want to. One example of someone making the trip would be if a mother needed money for her children to eat and to get an education she might consider taking the trip to provide a better life for them. The…
Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…
Enriques motivation to stay in the United States is work and buy a house back in Honduras not to mention the amount of money he is making allows him to afford a lot more than he could back in Honduras. He wishes to continue working so he can support his girlfriend and his daughter back home in Honduras as well as buy a house so that he can move in with his girlfriend and daughter and finally be a family. He thinks that his girlfriend is cheating on him and he realizes that he wants to be there for his daughter and raise her before she calls someone else her father. Rather than Enrique moving back home he decides that he wants his girlfriend and the baby to move to the United States with him.…
Hardships are not an easy thing to go through, they’re rigor and just an obstacle no one wants to go through, hence the name.Yet hardships can influence a person’s like tremendously by making them a stronger person.…
Famous philosopher, Marcus Cicero, believes that, “The greater the difficulty, the greater the glory.” There is always people who get crushed by their difficulty everyday there is someone who struggles because whatever they are doing is difficult for them. Most people who are alcoholics almost never get sober because they love drinking. They might say that they are going to stop but they are likely to not stop. Difficulty makes people feel bad about them because they quit at what they are doing because it is to hard for them. Difficulty also sometimes makes people want to kill them self’s. It makes them do this because they are tired of doing what they can’t do. Therefore, difficulty is not an excuse for failure.…
Kanye West’s 2007 hit song, “Stronger” uses Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophy, “That which does not kill us makes us stronger”. In his novel, The Happiness Hypothesis, Jonathan Haidt states his hypothesis that people must endure all the hardships of life in order to grow in all aspects. I agree with both Nietzsche and Haidt that through perseverance of all difficulties that occur in life, we can develop a stronger physical, social, mental, and emotional state. I find Haidt’s suggestion interesting because many hardships I have endured and am continuing to endure, prove his suggestion valid.…
When I was a child, my guardians oft apprised to struggle exhaustively to obtain my needs. Although circumstances and society play important roles in their success and happiness, the choice people make plays the major role in their success As Thomas Paine said, "the harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph." As long as a person is a life he is able to make changes and succeed and this was proven by many people' slide such as Galileo.…
Another way people gain strength is by living in poverty. In the story the “Prince and the Pauper”, the prince of a kingdom and a poor boy switch places.…
Throughout life, everyone faces hardships. Whether you are faced with illness or disease, poverty, or anything that can cause a problem within your everyday life, no one gets out without going through something rough. Examples of a hardship are shown in the reading “My Daily Dives in the Dumpster” by Lars Eighner. The author tells us about his personal experience of being homeless and the constant struggle to search for things like food and other necessities just to stay alive. The average person complains about pointless things everyday like how they look ugly in an outfit, or their hair didn’t come out the way they wanted it to, or they don’t like the food that is being served to them; just think about someone like the author of this passage who has nothing and still manages to keep a positive attitude. Be grateful for what you do have, and pray for the ones who struggle.…
