Guys and Dolls
The show Guys and Dolls took place at the Playhouse Theatre on Friday, November the
8th at 7:30 PM. This show is a musical based mostly on lots of songs and toe-tapping dance. It is a story about love, romance, and much more. Overall, the show was simply great. Three reasons why the show was great was because of the cool background, a real band playing the music, and the moving props. Because of not only these three things but also many other little things, the show was a great success.
The cool background was one aspect of the show that was really important in shaping my opinion. The background was important in shaping my opinion because every show needs visual entertainment along with auditory entertainment and something that catches the audience’s eye. This is important in a show so the audience is kept entertained and ensures that the audience is not bored at any point in the show. In the show, the cool background in the beginning of the show looked 3D and it had Guys and Dolls written on it in bright orange with sparkly lights. This ensured that the audience did not get bored and the bright colors definitely caught the audience’s eye. Therefore, this part of the show helped it in becoming a huge success.
A real band playing the music was another aspect of the show that was really important in shaping my opinion. The band was important in shaping my opinion because every musical needs music to go along with the songs that the performers sing. Also this enhances the drama that goes on in the shows and greatly exaggerates it. The live band just made the music that much better because it made everything seem much more realistic especially the songs that the performers sang and it simply added charm and personality to the show. In the show, there was a real band playing underneath the stage. They had drums

set up there and this helped the sound boom louder much like a pit in an old time stage.

A good electric guitar player is part of the group as well. They also at one point had a woman with a nice singing voice perform with them. She sing several songs with them. Next, I found out why they had the Bad New Jazz & Blues Orchestra again at the festival. In the band, one member acted as their conductor. Several individuals play saxophone. A couple of individuals plays horns. Three trumbones are involve, a woman sings well in the band and unlike Space Train had key board player in it. The trumpet players were good and I am not what you call a fan of them. In fact, I like the singing of this woman better than the singer in Space Train. It was very well organized orchestra. People in the audience must have agree because a couple…

As soon as I entered the theatre, it was completely packed. I also saw many people from different age groups; this gave me a feeling that the show would be entertaining enough to get people from all ages to come and see the show. The environment of the theatre was very formal, as there was a red and gold layout and it was also very clean.…

The lights on the sides of the stage shines right into the audience’s faces that were sitting on the far sides of the house. Besides this distraction, the lighting was often very dim or sparsely lit. I thought it might have been a limitation of the space, but there were a few scenes that were very well lit, so I was confused about the purpose of that. It didn’t really seem to add much to the production and was much more distracting in its limitations than it was enhancing. Sound was a prominent part of the show, often used during the fight scenes. I actually liked the use of sound in the fight scenes. Although the intense music was another component of the over-dramatic action of the show, I felt that it was one of the few necessary ones. There obviously needed to be some sound to fill this time, and it would have been odd for it to be something other than the intense mood that was clearly trying to be created. Besides…

Whoever worked the lights and sound needed a little work. They cut lights on early that were not supposed to be cut on. In my opinion, during the Emerald City dance sequence, I feel like there should have been color changes on the lights. When the actors named each of the colors, such as green, red, and gold, the lights should have changed. That would have added more dimension to the scene and made it better. Overall, the lighting and sounds of the show were very nice. We just needed better people working them.…

The type of theatre that was used was a picture fame stage. The stage was fairly small but perfect for the production that was being put on. It was a simple theatre with a older look to it. The stage sat directly in front of the audience seating. The play space was also a little small but worked out great for the performance. The production was perfect the way it was setup.…

I attended the evening performance of Guys and Dolls on Thursday 17. Directed by Leiz Moore, Guys and Dolls is cast from the Musical Theatre Crew, with appearances from guest performers Jeff Michael and Andrew Hawkey. It was shown at the Playhouse Theatre. Guys and Dolls is a 1950’s Broadway comedy. Nathan Detroit, a gambler, needs a location to play his crap game which he has supposably stopped organising, according to his fiancé Adelaide. The only location left that the game can be played is in an automotive garage. The owner of the garage wants a thousand dollars before the gamblers can use his garage. To get this money, Detroit bets a fellow gambler Sky Masterson, that he cannot take a “doll” to dinner with him in Havana.…

The singing ability in this show was spectacular. I was impressed by the lyrics of the songs as well as how the acting fit right in with the vocals. The dancing was phenomenal. I felt that the audience was a little dry and slow to react to the dialogue. For how much energy the show provided, I am unsure as to why the audience did not connect.…

Many of the characters in William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” can be called responsible for the lovers’ deaths (including themselves). Ultimately, one of the overriding themes of the story: fate, is the reason for their deaths. Throughout the story, it would be inevitable, it would be their fate that Romeo and Juliet both take their own lives. This is established in the prologue of the play, therefore no matter how the characters act to try and situation around, fate is what causes their death in the end.…

In addition, at the end of the show there was no feedback shown towards the crew on how they could improve before the next show. At the control room there was some chatter that could be heard into the studio but no one was communicating from my view of the team on set. The team cohesiveness was poorly displayed throughout the show since each person only cared about their own roles and very relaxed on the job. However, the show was still a success since it was put together very well and intrigued the audience to what was going on. The topic choice for the production as a whole was an excellent choice and helped shine a light on something that is rarely talked about in the industry of on screen film and television. Overall, the experience was pleasant and helped me learn about production management from how well the group works on set and the importance of it during a live…
