An encounter I could never forget
An encounter I could never forget.

“Ring! Ring!”
“Shin! Shin! Please wake up, you are late to work!” Damn! It is already 8.30 in the morning. Today I have a very important meeting in my office! My wife, Stella, says, “Your breakfast is on the table, dear.”
Yeah. I am Shin. My body is well-built because sometimes I go to the gymnasium to sweat it out. I have droopy eyes and I am proud of it because only a few people have this kind of eyes. On the other hand, my wife, Stella, is a housewife. She is slender and she has the most beautiful cheek bones I have ever seen. When I finish my breakfast, I drive to work in a hurry.
On the way to my office, out of the blue, my car stops moving. Oh my god! My car stops in the middle of a forest! I need to walk at least 5 kilometers to the nearest gas station. Suddenly, on the way, I faint and fall into a dark, pitch black hole.
When I jolt awake, I hear voices repeating the same words again and again. The voices are all shouting simultaneously, “Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!” Where am I now? With multiple questions swirling in my head, I am helpless. I sit down. A man is quite curious when he sees me sitting on the road and asks, ”Why don’t you go into the stadium to celebrate together?
“Huh? Celebrate what?” I ask.
The man says without hesitation, ”Today is the independent day of our country! We are trying to enjoy ourselves today because the Britons have left our country.”
“What date is today?” I ask.
“It is the 31st of August 1957. Are you crazy? How can you forget the most important date in history?” With this, the man walks into the stadium.
Before I go out of my house, I am quite sure that I am in the year 2009! Why am I back in the 1950s? This is impossible! I think I must have fall into a black hole and go to the past. Today is the independent day of our country. This is history! I charge into the stadium to watch the Father of Independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman, chorusing the word “Merdeka” repeatedly.
When I see Tunku

The brevity of the two words had not fallen short of having miles of meaning behind them. They had gathered the meaning of the novel into one and in doing so, served a greater purpose to the reader, who is essentially being represented in the novel through the ward patients. There is no getting around the symbolic use of the combine as society, an inescapable concept in which we all have been placed . Randle McMurphy is our best selves- the difficulty found in how we get to access that part in ourselves amidst such a pressured setting .In the ward, Nurse Ratched holds the most amount of power above not only the patients, but the other people that work there as well such as the doctor; she does this through holding fear above them. The last thing I remember is falling asleep during a late night rerun of the Twilight Zone. So when it happened, it was especially eerie, like I had stepped into a lost episode, but Rod Serling was nowhere in sight; for moment, neither was anybody else. At 4:31 AM a merciless shove pushed me off my bed. I crawled on the floor, trying to escape the cruel, uncontrollable shaking, but it followed me. It followed me down the stairs and underneath the dining room table where my family joined me. Little did I realize that before the morning sun rose again, I would see everything differently.…

The only thing I remembered was getting hit by a car, any events that had happened after that were gone from my memory.…

The midnight of August 15, 1947 is memorable for every Indian on earth, as it is the day, when India gained independence from the stranglehold of the mighty British. The otherwise suppressed tri-colored flag of India was given its due respect, when it was hoisted by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who rose to make a maiden speech, “When the world sleeps, India will wake to life and freedom.” The journey we began on 1947 is now 66 years old. We have achieved much in these 66 years.…

Looking back today we see that the way that Europeans went about colonization was wrong and corrupt but in their eyes, along with the eyes of their fellow conquerors, they assumed the right to conquer and colonize through whatever means necessary. The colonization techniques in North America didn’t differ from those in Latin America. Each individual country felt endowed and felt an obligation to colonize and spread their culture and their ways.…
