Evaluation of a Business Code of Ethics, "Walmart"
A business code of ethics is a set of rules or guidelines written and distributed by an organization to all employees, including management regarding ones behavior and conduct (Business Dictionary, 2011). In our everyday lives, which include where we work, principles and standards are important. The function of a code of ethics policy is to provide its personnel, administration, board of directors, and others an orientation that abides by a business course of action, principles, and ethical standards. Saving individual money to help him or her establish a better lifestyle was the central objective that the owner. Sam Walton had in mind when he opened the first store almost 50 years ago. Today a leader in maintaining, company compassion and employment opportunity, Wal-Mart is the top dog in the CNN Money Magazines (2011) annual ranking of America’s largest corporations for the second year in a row. Today in the 21st century Wal-Mart is globally famous over the world with 9230 stores, in 15 different countries, employing 2.1 million employees, and serving more than 176 million people a year (Wal-Mart Corporate, 2011). This industry ethics policy describes the different outlooks and behaviors, which build an honest, objectivity, and legal working environment. The first order of business of this statement is a message from the president and CEO; indicating the importance of why the entire organization should adhere to the rules. They also follow three basic beliefs established since Sam Walton founded the first store in 1962, which consist of respect for the individual, service to customers, and striving for excellence. Implementing the utilitarianism ethical system in this organization is showing that Walmart concerns are for the greater good for, the greater number, meaning they are working for not just for the company but for the associates, managers, board of directors, and other third parties related to
