An Example Of Narrative Essay About Lifeguard
You never know how helpless you are until you have a near death experience. One summer, when I was young, my family and I went to a water park. I didn’t know how to swim, but thankfully the majority of the park required no swimming ability. For one of the rides, I wanted to get out of my tube and jump around, but once I climbed out, I immediately sunk to the bottom. I tried to kick back up and just as my legs gave in, a lifeguard climbed in and essentially saved my life. He was my hero and I was very grateful, but something was bothering me. I realized later that it was the fact that I wasn’t able to help myself. It was that moment when I decided to become a lifeguard to save myself and many others. I already knew being a lifeguard required a load of responsibility. I was only …show more content…
My nerves from the first class unexpectedly came rushing back. These students grew into great swimmers, but I knew that the depth of the water could petrify them. The first few students were able to swim back up with little to no effort, but the last girl lost her footing and slipped into the pool and couldn't resurface. I froze as I saw her struggling to swim and breathe. My mind quickly flashed back to the time I jumped out of my tube and almost drowned. Then I remembered that I was no longer that little girl who couldn't swim. I was the adult in charge of saving people's lives. I quickly dove down to rescue the helpless body. We resurfaced and she was coughing, but still alive and breathing. Until that moment, I never fully understood how much pressure lifeguards are under. During all those classes, I thought my nerves just disappeared, but they can never entirely go away. Anything can happen at any time and a wrong move or bad timing can be the difference between life and death. Thinking on my feet and not knowing what the future holds for me is part of the process of growing

I am not a professional reader, nor am I a professional writer. As a matter of fact, I don’t like writing at all, but then writing is a part of life. I was only 6 years old when I started to take an interest in reading and also started to learn how to read. My grandmother was a greater reader. She would read to me all the time and encourage me to read anything I could get my hands on. I would always see her with a book during her spare time.…

Some advertisements influence individuals in becoming addicted to the nicotine inside the health hazard wrapped within paper. When the sky is blue, the humidity is high, and the weather finally reaches around 80°, it usually means it’s time to hit the beach. Moms bring floaties for their kids and beach chairs for themselves in order to sit in the sun and get a good tan. Bored lifeguards fidget on their red chairs and idly twirl their whistles waiting, but not wishing, for something to happen. Little children run around, excited to finally get in the water and cool off as their mother’s shove water wings on their scrawny little arms, greasy with sunscreen. But are the colorful blow up wings really worth it? Are those colorful floaties guaranteed to prevent their kids from drowning? Little do they know, these devices that families heavily rely on may just be the user’s quite literal downfall.…

It wasn’t until I was playing in the pool one summer’s day with my older brother and his friends that my perspective changed. While roughhousing and splashing about in the water, my brother put me in a chokehold and held me under the water for what felt like hours, as I tried desperately to break free. I began to lose my senses: their laughter already muffled by the water got quieter and the bright, summer sunlight began to dim. Just before I passed out, my brother released his grip. My panic persisted, despite the absence of immediate danger and replacement of water with oxygen in my lungs. Crying then, I managed to drag myself from the pool and find a dry towel. I didn’t get back in the pool that day. It wasn’t a drastic change that followed, but the next time the boys asked me to join a game of football, I was hesitant to agree. It was more of an awareness of my physical limitations as the boys continued to grow and I reached a…

There can be major physical changes and effects to a female’s body after having a child. In 2011 when I had my son the hospital gave me an epidural for the pain; they did the shot too high up on my back. As far as anyone knew I was fine. I showed no signs of problems until after I got out of the hospital, when I started having back spasms due to the fact that the epidural was done incorrectly. The female body goes through many natural changes; it prepares itself to be capable of having a child naturally and being capable of breastfeeding babies. It can also cause other effects that are not necessarily normal changes to the female body, for me the two main changes that I had were being anemic and having a hyperthyroid. The doctors told me that I was anemic because I had lost too much blood during labor and that the hyperthyroid was a result of my body changing after having my son but that it was nothing to worry about.…

A near-death experience is not what I would have expected when I embarked on a road trip to Colorado with my church group. It was supposed to be one of the best weeks of our lives, and it was. We still reminisce about Colorado and talk about going back and visiting almost every single day. The experiences we gained while working with others is one that taught me valuable lessons. Up until I went on this trip, I was a sand-in-your-hair, sand-on-your-feet, salt water type of person. I could have lived on the beach my entire life and still never feel as if I’ve had my fill of it. After this trip to Colorado, I now realize that I am a lungs-burning, heart-pumping, hiking type of person as well. The changes that I experienced in Colorado is something that I hope everyone is able to experience in their life.…

I actually went a few years without experiencing a life-or-death event, surprisingly. It wasn’t until I was 10 that I faced another life-threatening situation, and in this instance, I wasn’t the only person being harmed. During a routine drive from my house to my grandmother’s house, a drunk driver crashed into us. We were going about 65 miles an hour, as the road we were on was similar to an interstate. The wreck put all of us in the hospital, and for the first hour or so, I thought one of us was not going to survive. Luckily, we all pulled through and recovered over the next few…
