An experience that taught me something about life
We should appreciate more and be grateful for what we have and what we are. I will take this lesson with me for the rest of my life. I was 19 years old when I discovered I was pregnant. I was so scared to tell my parents, so I made my boyfriend, now husband deliver the news. They were a little upset in the beginning, but later they ended up accepting it and loving the idea of being grandparents. I was really happy, buying baby clothes, setting up the baby’s room, and etc. Fortunately, my baby was born healthy, and that made my family and I very happy. The problem started a week after my daughter was born. I started getting depressed, hating life and hating myself. I didn’t want to hold my baby, or even breastfeed her. I was feeling down, thinking I couldn’t be a mother so young. I thought it was really hard. The baby crying all the time and having to wakeup on the middle of the night to breastfeed was terrible for me. A friend of mine invited my family for a party at her house. My boyfriend, my daughter who was 2 months old and I went to the party. When we got there, I saw a girl in a wheel chair holding a baby in her arms. I started talking to her, and she told me all her life story. She had an accident when she was 20 years old and since the accident she couldn’t walk anymore. She was 27 years old when I met her. She told me she had a one-night stand and got pregnant. She was living and taking care of her new born baby all by herself. All my post partum depression went away immediately after she finished telling me her story. All I can think of is how is it that a person with so many difficulty can be so happy and at ease with the idea of having a baby. I left that party feeling like I was a terrible person. I thought to my self, “I am perfectly abled person, I can walk and I had all my families support”. I was complaining about such small things, while that woman was very happy and content with just being able to take care of her baby while in a wheel

My father had picked me up while carrying me to mother, not angry like I thought they’d be. They held me whilst mother saying, “No one can replace you, Abigail, we love you dearly.” And “Nothing will change, even when the baby will come.” father told me. After that talk, I grew to love the fact that I am going to be a big sister.…

I then realized the look on the doctor’s face and that in it spoke the words that were unspoken. She started explaining to us that the mother was only 22 ½ weeks along and that she was going into premature labor. We had a decision to make -we could either let her naturally go into labor with the baby being breech (this will cause a head catch) which lessens the chance of survival or do an emergency C- section. For the first time in my life I had no way of fixing this. This was out of my hands and into the hands of God. I felt alone, desperate and frightened. I just kept thinking this wasn’t supposed to happen to me. I’m a good person! I go to church; I help people in need, and I greet people with a smile to brighten their day. So the question kept popping in mind why did this happen to me?…

If information given by Cecilia Benoit is correct, pregnancy and childbirth are major events in women’s lives. The arrival of an infant is normally seen as a happy occasion and it is assumed that the new mother will likewise be delighted. Unfortunately, some women spiral downwards after the birth of their child, feeling despondent and depressed while others around them are rejoicing. Postpartum depression – involving a sense of helplessness, hopelessness, irritability, and physical symptoms such as fatigue – is a major public health problem affecting about one in seven women after childbirth (2007). There are however, some coping mechanisms that mothers with post-partum depression (PPD) may use to decrease symptoms. Mothers diagnosed with post-partum depression may find it useful to seek out psychiatric counseling, self-help groups, and medical treatment, as a way to decrease symptoms.…

Those with a terminal illness should be able to die peacefully, quickly, and surrounded by the people they love. Physician-assisted suicide is legal in six states and people are still fighting today to get it legalized. Whether physician assisted suicide is compassion or murder is a question that is still asked today. Doctor-assisted suicide…

No crying, not even once but was not going around acting like it was the best thing, either. Feeling like every one may ridicule myself, if people knew about the pregnancy, so mainly kept it to thyself. Although it did not take every one long to notice, living in a small town, rumors spread fast. If someone knows a secret, then those people believes it is okay to tell everyone, so it takes a week for the entire town to discover something that is not really THAT big of a deal and is not his or hers business to share. If it would have been until the pregnancy started taking its toll, no one would have known until six or seven months along! The older women who saw me in public always stared at myself in a negative way many times. The older women would say phrases such as, "Kids are going around having kids." That would never get to myself, knowing that it does not matter what others think. None of the older women would have thought to themselves that just maybe, myself being pregnant at that age, is not the best thing to do or have happen. The older women never once thought maybe the pregnant teenagers know that they had made a mistake. Some teenagers need help by others and make sure they know that it is not something that anyone should want. When pregnant there are many have a large amount of sacrifices to make. For example, say that some teens may be cheerleaders or in any…
