The award winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, by Al Gore is an eye opener and somehow it is a wake up call for me. I have heard about global warming way back high school and heard it often when I entered college. I knew the meaning of the term global warming and that was it. I knew a little about it, what causes global warming and how fatal are its effects to Earth. And honestly, I never really cared. I was one of those people who treat it very lightly and after watching An Inconvenient Truth I was caught off guard by the concrete and hard fact. After watching the documentary I knew what Earth’s big time enemy is today, and that is global warming.
The documentary gave me a deeper understanding of what global warming really is and what will be the consequences if we do not do something about it. The way the documentary is presented is very effective. Al Gore defined and described global warming in a way a non-science-loving-environmentalist-geek would understand. He also adds humor to it by presenting some animated slide show in between explanations. Most likely, the simplicity of the presentation and the thorough explanation are the reasons why the documentary received so many awards and appreciation.
It started with the presentation of the basic process of global warming which is the greenhouse gases are trapping the sun’s heat in the earth’s atmosphere which makes the earth warm. The greenhouse gases are caused by producing too much Carbon Dioxide. I was really shocked when he started showing the comparison of the old and new photographs of the same places, the difference is really obvious. I can see that it is still that place but the changes are really shocking. The glaciers are starting to melt and melting fast. The next slides were the chart presentations of how the production of Carbon Dioxide is getting higher, how the Earth’s temperature is getting warmer and how glaciers are melting faster that it is some
