An Inconvenient Truth "What we take for granted might not be here for our children." This is a quote that environmentalist Al Gore uses in his movie, An Inconvenient Truth. The movie is about global warming, and extreme effects it causes in our planet. The movie demonstrates the effects, causes and some solutions to global warming. First, there are many causes to global warming. One of the main causes is carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels. Did you know that 40% of U.S. CO2 Emissions come from electricity production, and burning coal accounts for 93% of emissions from the electric utility industry? Another cause is methane which is also ranking right behind carbon dioxide. This means that not only is our planet being destroyed by something we rely on, rather it be electricity or gas for our cars, but many people use these for everyday uses causing our planet to be destroyed. Next, these causes effect many different things in our planet. Al Gore mentions that because of global warming disease is easier to be found because animals carrying diseases migrate north due to the heat. For example, a mosquito carrying malaria. He also mentions that global warming creates warm water therefore allowing more hurricanes to occur, and they will get stronger through out the time. This will cause economic effects and billions of dollars lost. Finally, Al Gore says that polar ice caps are melting. This will raise sea levels, throw ecosystems out of balance, and obviously temperature will rise endangering many species in the Arctic. Finally, some solutions for global warming. This could be boosting energy efficiency, greening transportation(hybrid cars), phasing out fossil fuel electricity, renewing resources. Now many of these could be solutions but do to our technology and funding for the solutions some which could help a lot do not exist. Although solutions are timid, more will be in production as time goes by. All in all, An inconvenient truth is a very important movie which talks about a major issue, global warming. What is happening to our planet is unfortunate and its causes our from our ignorance. We have taken advantage of resources and if we keep taking advantage of them one day we will end up with nothing left. We must utilize all solutions and know about the causes and effects from global warming and I believe Al Gore has demonstrated very well what we can do to help.
