In the Katabatic winds I see God showering His blessings on us and revealing His power. He speaks to us through the Bible, through study and through His creation. When I describe the Holy Spirit I always use the example of the wind. We can’t see it, but we can feel the effects of the wind. Isn’t that a fantastic way to explain the Holy Spirit?
The Katabatic winds are God affecting us through blessing, love and His Spirit. The exact opposite of Katabatic winds is “Anabatic” winds.
Metrologies define: an anabatic wind is also called an upslope wind. It is the air current that blows up a hill or mountain slope facing the sun. Facing the sun? Can we find a better description of the praise we return to God? Of course our sun is the SON!
And there you have a definition of worship! In this definition, it is the Body facing Jesus, and we are praising Him! “Worship is the believer’s response of all that they are – mind, emotions, will, body – to what God is and says and does.”
In short, the katabatic wind is what “God is and says and does.” The anabatic wind is our response.
This is the anabatic wind in the context of our church. We meet together to encourage one another. We “spur each other on.” We are here to create an “updraft.” We are here to help make that connection. As the katabatic winds fall on us, we respond anabatically to God with worship. This is a place to be strengthened and empowered in our worship.
