Book of Shadows (BOS)/Grimoires/Spell Books/Witch’s Journal
A. What is the difference?
a. Book of Shadows (BOS) – A BOS is a book traditionally used by persons who practice the religion Wicca.
b. Grimoire – A grimoire is a book used by witches in general.
c. Spell Book – A spell book is a book used by witches or Wiccans. It is a book set apart from the grimoire and/or BOS. This book is generally created as a convenience. The same spells may or may not be included in the main grimoire or BOS.
d. Witch’s Journal –A journal used to record daily meditation and how you felt during the meditation. The creation, modification, and the particulars of spells before you enter the final version into your Grimoire. It is a place to record your feelings

Book of Shadows (BOS) – The term “Book of Shadows” or “BOS” was originally started by Gerald Gardner in his novel High Magic’s Aid in 1949. His High Priestess, Doreen Valiente, compiled the information that is standard in today’s Book of Shadows. She included much of the Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches, Valiente’s version of The Charge of the Goddess, her poem The Witch’s Rune and a poem she assisted in writing called the Wiccan Rede. It also contains rites, rituals and information central to the Wiccan religion such as the 13 Principles of a Witch. Each coven keeps a Book of Shadows and typically, a person who has been initiated can obtain a copy of this book. Some persons and perhaps covens as well, may also have a second Book of Shadows. “Internet Book of Shadows” or “Electronic Book of Shadows” - These are the most recent in all the other types of books but can mimic the previous types just in a new and more modern way. Both of these books are generally personalized books like the second Book of Shadows mentioned above. The Internet Book of Shadows is found, obviously, on the internet. The Electronic version, will most likely be found on a computer, IPAD or perhaps even an electronic reader such as a Kindle. These books tend to be somewhat personal.
