Analysis: Developing A Thankful Heart
We are continuing our sermon series “Developing a Thankful Heart” We often talk about thankfulness in November as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday. The Thanksgiving season is a unique opportunity to express our gratitude to God for His blessings. However, for those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ, giving thanks should be a way of life every day of the year. Our goal in this series of messages is to learn how to be genuinely thankful people at all times, regardless of our circumstances. We are learning this by examining the principles in the Lord’s Prayer that motivate us to be thankful.
What motivates the followers of Christ to be thankful in all circumstances? Last Sunday we considered two truths. First, we have the Word of God.

Jesus encouraged his disciples to view God as their “Father”. It is love, more than any other trait that defines the Father. God’s love for His children is perfect. That means that God always seeks our best. God’s love for His children is also unconditional, since it is based on His nature rather than our performance. His love is unrelated to our achievements or failures. It is given to us freely, as a gift. Understanding how much we are loved promotes trust and gratitude. There are three benefits that come from trusting in God’s love. 1) Trusting in God’s love gives us freedom from guilt over past sins. Past sins can burden us with a sense of inadequacy and failure. Overwhelming feelings of shame can discourage us from even trying to follow Christ. But the forgiveness that God offers cleanses us from all sins. When we grasp the fact that our sins are forgiven, we can live with confidence and enthusiasm. Forgiveness of sins assures us that the past cannot suppress our potential for future success. 2.) Trusting in God’s love gives us freedom from panic over our present circumstances. Christians cannot deny the consequences of sin in their relationship with God. However, Romans 8:28 says that “God causes everything to work together for the good of His children.” This term “everything” includes our wrong decisions and even our willful rebellion against God. We cannot deny the consequences of sin, but God is able to bring good out of all circumstances for the Christian. 3.) Trusting in God’s love gives us freedom from worry about the future. The Apostle Paul says in Romans 8:35-39 that nothing the future may hold can separate us from God’s loving

Compassion was a common theme in The Awareness by Gene Stone and Jon Doyle . To show compassion requires a desire to be sympathetic, show pity, love, and general concern for others. While in The Awareness each animal had varying ranges of emotions, such as anger, vengeance, and pity. Compassion was a common thread in each of the chapters. Compassion is a choice made, it simply requires an awareness of feelings and a decision to live with love, respect, and consideration.…

Part One of Elmer Towns’ Concise Bible Doctrines introduces Christian theology by outlining the key pieces of the doctrine to help the reader understand Christianity and faith. Towns begins by saying that the main purpose of Bible doctrine is to communicate the gospel to the people at a point of need. Every man has the same need because every man is cut off from God. Man is born with a sin nature, and because he is less than holy, he is isolated and alienated from God. Death is imminent for everyone, but God communicates through the Bible that through Jesus Christ, man can be saved. The word “gospel” means “good news.” It is the responsibility of every Christian to reach out in relationships to the unsaved in sharing this news, and to other Christians in fellowship. Christians are called to seek God, and study the Bible to learn to know Him better, and worship Him always. Proper worship of God requires faith; the source of which is the Bible. Doctrinal faith is the beginning and the test of Christianity. If our statement of faith is wrong, than our faith is misplaced. Our faith must be grounded on correct knowledge of God. However, intellectual knowledge of God is not enough. Emotional expression and volition are equally important. The Holy Spirit acts on behalf of Jesus Christ to plant faith in a Christian’s heart. He indwells us, and helps us exercise our faith daily. We can grow in our faith by studying God’s word, seeking the Lord, confessing sin, actively following biblical principles, and constantly communicating with God. Faith is ultimately a reliance and trust of God, and the Bible teaches us to rely on Him for everything.…

    Who Can We Trust Analysis

It seems as though many religions make us feel like we should focus on God as something unfathomable and what Williams calls a “completely alien intelligence”. We aren’t supposed to understand him, so we instead focus on what separates us, instead of the relationship that it creates. Unfortunately this doesn’t build trust between us and our Creator. Williams tells us that there are many reasons to trust God, but specifically two reasons. One is the fact that he gave us Jesus up as a sacrifice and to live on this earth. He shows us through his Son that he made it possible to see that God isn’t hiding anything form us, his purpose is unselfish love. Williams says on page 10, “At the heart of the desperate suffering there is in the world, suffering we can do nothing to resolve or remove for good. There is an indestructible energy making of for love. If we have grasped what Jesus is about, we can trust that this is what lies at the foundation of everything”. The second part is that God is complete fullness. He makes the point that anything we do will not make God love us, no amount of good or bad will change his mind or his love. God doesn’t forgive us because we’re good, but we’re good because he forgives…

Our love for others is usually based on how they treat us, and what they do for us. Even though we could do nothing for God, He still loved us with no doubt. God has created in us feelings, and a heart. In the book Praxis, they say that giving your heart to Jesus is like jumping into the lap of a parent and looking to them for guidance. When you give God your heart, you are trusting Him with your life, emotions, feelings, and you are trusting Him to guide your life in the right direction. In my life, I try to love the people around me the best way I can because I know I would want the same from them. I try to take what I learn from God’s Word and what He says about love and how we should use it and use it in my life to the best of my ability. Knowing that God has endless love for me, and how He says we should love our neighbor’s as we love ourselves is a constant reminder for me to be kind to others, and give them love and help whenever they need…

The Lord is a very generous and loving God. We, as followers and believers of Christ, should be thankful for everything He does. Many people in the world are not thankful for all the things the Lord does for them. They tend to complain about their life and worry about what they do not have rather than think about all the things they are privileged to have. People worry too much about who has the best phone, or car, or house, etc. and they do not focus on what is really important, which is their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is very easy to think of all the things we do not have and be unthankful. We can be jealous and covetous. But the hard thing to do is to remember to thank God for everything He has provided for us and for the wonderful life that He has given us.…

Prayer- Father God in heaven, it is once again that you have allowed me to stand behind the sacred desk and breathe the breath of life one more time. God I thank you that you will allow these your people to witness your awesome power. God I ask right now in the name of Jesus, that you would make every heart in this room that has not fully accepted you, uncomfortable so that through this message, you can speak to their heart and have them surrendering to your will and your way. God I know that this is youth day but lord help me to preach YOUR WORD to the young as well as the young at heart. Then God I ask that you will put Minister Lee in his seat and that you will rise inside of me, using me as a conduit to reach your children, with the aid of the Holy Spirit leading and guiding. Then God I ask by the authority of your word that you help me set the captives free, heal the broken hearted, and help the blind receive sight so that they may see their way through the storm, in Jesus’ immaculate we do pray. Once we have realized his hand in our lives we can show our thanks by praying and simply saying that we are thankful for his hand in our lives. This not only tells God that we are aware of his help it also helps us to think of even more ways that the lord has helped our lives. While this is a great way to state how thankful we are, to really show how thankful we are we can share the blessings we have received with everyone that we can. We then gain greater blessings and we have the opportunity to be a blessing in someone else’s life.…
