Analysis Of A Strong Empathy For Christina's Session
During this counseling session, I portrayed strong empathy for Christina’s situation by how I continued to listen, asking Christina about her behaviors, and asking open-ended questions that describe how Christina is feeling. In regards to Christina’s behaviors, I knew how it felt to be frustrated and angry at my mother. There were times during my adolescent and early adult years where I did not agree with my mother’s choices and was frustrated with her because I wanted her to make the choices that were going to benefit her difficult situation or happiness. Based on my empathy, I knew how Christina was feeling about wanting to build a strong relationship with her mother and why she created a shield with her wings to block out classmates and

John, Sally, and their daughter Mary came into therapy wanting to help deal with current issues relating to Mary’s depression and self-harm. They had discovered that Mary had been occasionally cutting herself as well as isolating herself in her room for long hours. Sally had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, which was successfully operated on, and was in remission. From an object relations perspective much of the family’s relationship and way of dealing, or in this case not dealing with Sally’s cancer, was facilitating Mary’s depression. Sally’s cancer had been minimized due to its highly operable nature. Both John and Sally explained to Mary that it was unnecessary to talk about the cancer as her mother had been “cured” already, ignoring the intense feelings of loss, sadness, and anger by all the family members before the positive news. Although this pattern and unconscious rule in their family where issues of intense emotional content were not to be discussed, this highly traumatic event appeared to be the breaking point for Mary.…

In the grand scheme of things, each of us is working hard to see ourselves prosper. When we are fighting for survival, why should any of us take the time to feel for our fellow human beings? Empathy, the ability to put yourself in another person’s position, is a key factor in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone elses shoes and know what they are feeling. As Atticus puts it, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (39). This quote is told to Scout when she does not want to go to school. But, it can be used as a guide throughout the book. Since many boundaries are stretched, a number of characters in this book show varying degrees of empathy. The racism boundary is one of great importance, because a black man, Tom Robinson, seems innocent, but could still be convicted because of the color of his skin. Loyalty is also a key factor in empathy. Many characters stay true to who they are, even if the going gets tough. Miss Maudie, Jem, and Atticus all have empathy in some sections or in the entirety of To Kill a Mockingbird in their own unique ways.…

The term empathy is the ability to understand or feel the other person’s feelings. In the lines of Steve Dutch he doesn’t give any empathy. Dutch implies that students claim to know the material, but they not do well on exams. He believes that if you can’t answer the questions about the material you don’t know the material. I strongly disagree with Dutch’s argument of the line “I know the material- I just don’t do well on exams”, because many people have anxiety, different ways of learning, and the way questions are asked. Dutch is only giving his opinion of the situation his not facing in facts.…

The story takes place in a town called Maycomb, Alabama, in the 1930s. Despite the whites treating the African Americans like subordinates, the townsfolk treat each other like family, with the exception of the Ewell family. Birdhouse Essay

I sighed, knowing that my mom spends quite a bit of money on these therapy sessions. I might as well give it a shot. Inhaling deeply I manage to give her the fakest smile I’ve ever given, and take the birdhouse from her. She looked unsure, scribbled something in her notepad, stood up, and said that she wanted the birdhouse done by the next therapy session. She gave me a hug and told me the same thing she says after every session. “You really are progressing Maria.” I tried to give her another one of my fake smiles, as she led me out of the office into the waiting room where my mom sat skimming through a magazine. She looked up and smiled, as if everything was okay. As if these stupid therapy sessions would fix my panic attacks. Just another reason that made me feel a little pang of resentment towards her, even though she was just trying to help.…
