One thing that Gill said that really caught my attention was, “Does it have to take a tragedy or a disaster for us to feel deeply connected as one species, as human beings” (Hicks).
Right now this is something our nation is struggling with. Whether it be race, religion or political views we seem find a way to separate and dehumanize each other based on beliefs and views. I think we need to set all of this aside to become the great nation we once were. Gill wants everyone to join together and stop the hate going on all over the world. Not because it’s nice or what you are supposed to do, but because we are all humans we all are equal. Our views do not change the fact that we are built the
same. Gill definitely showed solidarity in her speech. She did not ask you to do a simple task for a cause that no one knows or cares about. She asked you to think about how your actions affect others. She wants us to realize that as humans we rely on each other and it shouldn’t take something completely horrible to make us join together as one. The talk was very eye opening to me. I do not think about how true tragedy would bring us together. It really made me think about what I can do to get along with others and help them when they need it. I realized we are all humans weather we are Muslim or Christian, black or white we need to stand for what’s right for each other. If we don’t do it who will?
