Biographical Information: Include life experiences that impacted thoughts and impact on education.
Sigmund Freud was born to Amelia and Jacob in 1856 and was the oldest of eight children. Being the first born Freud had the honor of continuing the longstanding family tradition of being named after the three Polish Kings; until the ripeful age of twenty-one Freud was affectionately known as Sigismunds (Murdock, 2009). Born in the town of Freiburg, now known as Czech Republic, Freud and his family experienced much discrimination due to their Jewish heritage. In an era where only ten percent of the natives were Jewish Freud faced multitudes of restrictions on his career (Gutek, 1995).
This was not the only obstacle in Freud’s life. Being born to a mother who knew his destined greatness would help him in the long run but his father wasn’t as reassuring. Freud’s father Jacob was forty-one when Freud was born and his eldest son bore a son the same year which made him a grandfather and father at the same time. This was particularly difficult for for Freud because his father had experienced the joys of fatherhood years earlier.
In 1783 Freud entered the Univesity of Vienna with the intentions of studying law but his aspriration and love for knowledge led him to study physiology and neurology (Murdock, 2009). While attending medical school Freud studied under Franz Brentano who specialized in motivation on behavior and the dynamic nature of thought and action.
