In the article “Anthropological Places, Digital Spaces and Imaginary Scapes: Packaging a Digital Samiland” written by Coppelie Cocq it is examined what cultural heritage is and how is identity created together with the elements that make a culture to be what it is. This article talks also about the differences that sami people have in regards to the place where they live. As I was reading the article I came very interested in knowing more about our cultural heritage and its impact in Kosovo. Furthermore, I wanted to know how is our culture being preserved and the impact of the landscape in the creation of our cultural heritage. To conduct the necessary information, I decided to talk with Parim Kosova, who knows more about cultural heritage
Mr. Kosova said that Prizren is one of the cities that it can be identified as a place of identity. I would agree with Mr. Kosova, because Prizren has many places or objects that have some characteristics of our culture and are considered as having some basic elements of cultural heritage. Since culture is a mixture of values between many regions, it is rarely to find an isolated culture. However; our culture has some unique characteristics such as towers and objects, which have elements of local heritage and have imported elements as well. When I asked Mr. Kosova to tell me some examples of our cultural practices, he said that there are many examples and one of them may be the towers. Mr. Kosova also mentioned that our traditional clothes are an example of cultural practices. There are some shirts that in Albanian are known as kemisha me oja or zyref, which are made by Albanian women and are mostly used in weddings. Another concrete example can be the jewelry shops in Prizren, which have some specific processing techniques. Of course, the place or the nature plays a big role in the creation of a culture, stated Mr.
I was very privileged to talk with a person like Mr. Kosova. His information expanded my knowledge towards our cultural heritage. I must say that before the interview I did not know that there are so many institutions that are responsible for our cultural heritage. I was very surprised to learn that many objects that are part of our culture have been damaged and even destroyed. Another important think that I learnt is that citizens of our country are very careful when it comes to save and protect objects that are part of our cultural heritage. This fact makes me feel good and happy to be part of a society where people are aware for what is good and what is not. The information that Mr. Kosova gave me has similarities comparing with the information that I read in the article. In the article it is mentioned that the place has a big impact in cultural heritage since it plays a very important role in the construction of a culture. Mr. Kosova had the same opinion and he said that modernization has brought many differences and the new buildings are importing some new elements that are not part of our culture.
