His unique design features a large, round, green body with a round head and the infamous Boston Red Sox cap perched on his head (Carey). He is named after the enormous 37 foot 2 inch wall in left field that has cemented Fenway Park’s legacy as one of the greatest baseball fields of all time(Carey).
Wally uses his fun design to bring joy to his community. Wally the Green Monster visited Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. As a general rule, mascots should make an impact on the community. Wally impacts the community by visiting this hospital and cheering patients up. Wally's facebook said “This is what it’s all about. Thank you, Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. You’re the real superstars!” It also showed a few pictures of Wally hugging patients and giving them gifts and putting a smile on their faces (Green Monster). In addition, he shows kids how to make sounds, actions, and use their imaginations to make books come alive and is very interactive with fans at Red Sox games as well” …show more content…
You may believe that another mascot would be a better fit.This may seem reasonable at first, but on closer examination the reasoning isn’t as sound as it may seem. Wally helps teach kids to read and write with the Swing into Reading Program. He has even eaten lunch with student from L.B. Merrill School in Raynham (Vasconcellos).
Wally The Green Monster should be in the Mascot Hall of Fame. He is full of team spirit, he cares about his youth audience, he is a good role model, and he makes a positive impact on the community. Arguments that Wally is not as good or important of a role model as other candidates do not hold up, because Wally helps children and inspires his community in many ways. Therefore, Wally should be the next nominee for the Mascot Hall Of
